Today, our New York City network is comprised of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. KIPP NYC Public Schools currently serves more than 9,350 students and alumni and has a staff of more than 850. Description:
The Senior Director of Special Education is a key leader in driving outcomes for students with exceptionalities in KIPP NYC. The Senior Director will manage a team of Directors on the Regional Student Support Services (S3) team. The Senior Director will drive results for students through these Directors, and will work to develop relationships across schools. Primary responsibilities will include coaching and developing Regional S3 Directors and school-based Deans and Special Education Leaders. The Senior Director will work with regional and school-based personnel to ensure that students are receiving their services with fidelity and in compliance with their IEP mandates, while also ensuring that IEP services reflect the least restrictive level of service needed in order to help students thrive and excel. The Senior Director will work with colleagues on the Regional Teaching and Learning Support (TLS) and Data and Assessments teams in order to provide comprehensive, aligned support to schools and support in setting regional strategy that reflects the needs of our students with exceptionalities. Senior Director will report to the Managing Director of Student Support Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coach a team of up to three regional S3 Directors.
  • Create and curate professional development opportunities for regional PD days, as well as for school-based PD days based on regional and school-specific trends.
  • Work across teams to ensure students receive their services with fidelity.
  • Communicate regularly with school-based and regional leaders in order to drive outcomes aligned with regional strategy through influence.
  • When necessary, communicate with personnel at the New York City Department of Education’s Committee for Special Education (CSE), and support schools in their work with CSEs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree required. Master’s Degree in Special Education, preferred
  • 7+ years teaching experience in Special Education at the K-12 level, with a demonstrated record of strong student outcomes.
  • 5+ years experience leading a team of educators, with a track record of student results driven through that team.
  • 3+ years experience working on a regional team, with a track record of student outcomes driven through school-based educators.

Compensation and Benefits:

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary for this role ranging from $132,000 to $150,000. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band.
