Kennel Technician
Job Description

Job Summary:
Kennel Technicians are responsible for providing compassionate, attentive care of all boarding patients and pets. This entails walking, cleaning kennels and boarding facilities, maintaining a clean environment for boarding animals, maintenance of laundry for boarding facility and hospital use, as well as intake and discharge of boarding patients and pets. In addition to care of boarding animals and maintaining a clean boarding environment, kennel technicians also play a vital role within the hospital with assistance in maintaining a clean facility and aiding veterinary assistants and receptionists as needed with client and patient care.

Education and Experience:
● High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Kennel or animal care experience is preferred, although not required.
● Compassionate, friendly, attentive.
● Excellent communication skills and ability to understand written and oral directions.
● Basic computer and telephone skills.
● Ability to be an active team player with willingness to learn new skills.

Physical Requirements:
● Ability to walk, stand, and bend for the duration of shift.
● Able to lift 30 pounds unassisted.
● Visual acuity to maintain accurate records, identify patients and people, and understand written directions.
● Ability to speak and hear su ciently to understand and give information in-person and over the phone.

Specific Duties:
● Attentive, thorough care of boarding patients and pets, including: walking, feeding, watering, cleaning kennels, cleaning boarding facilities, maintaining a clean walking area for patients, bathing.
● Identification of medical or behavioral conditions in boarding patients and alerting veterinary technicians or veterinarians of condition/concern.
● Administration of medications as needed to boarding patients.
● Boarding patient and pet intake to boarding facility, including: ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed by owners, boarding records are completed for hospital use, identification of pet and all belongings, review of medical conditions and medications with owners and veterinary sta as needed, review of current vaccinations and identification of needed vaccines for boarding, use of veterinary software to check-in patients for needed boarding and veterinary services needed during stay.

● Boarding patient and pet discharge from boarding facility, including: identification of owner(s) and pet(s), review of boarding records and any concerns during stay, review of any newly prescribed medications with owners, review of patient computer record and charges with owner, accepting payment for services provided, discharging clean patients in a friendly manner, ensuring boarding animals are sent home with all personal belongings.

● Bathing animals.
● Basic animal handling.
● Assistance with maintenance of hospital facilities and duties as needed by veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and reception sta .

Job Type: Part-time

Schedule:

• 4 hour shift
• 8 hour shift
