Job Coach Job Description Summary:

The Job Coach basic duty is to provide support to individuals with developmental disabilities, enabling them to maintain competitive employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: in addition to other duties as assigned.

1. Learn the necessary job duties and teach individual how to properly carry them out.

2. Provide on-the-job supervision until the individual becomes able to carry out duties independently. (Supervision will decrease as ability increases)

3. Teach job related skills (use of public transportation, grooming, etc.) to individual.

4. Provide transportation to and from work for client as needed.

5. Advocate for the individual.

6. Use of good judgment in handling situations which may arise and notify Supported Employment Coordinator (SEC) of situation.

7. Document in writing areas of concern.

8. Keep up with individual’s work schedule and notify Supported Employment Coordinator (SEC) on a weekly basis.

9. Participate in individual’s annual work plan meeting.

10. Participate in agency training as required.

11. Assist Supported Employment Coordinator (SEC) in job search as requested.

12. Assist individual with living skill training, Comm. Int., Personal Assistance, or Supportive Home Care in accordance with their PCSP.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises individuals working under Supported Employment, carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training clients, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required or related experience and or training preferred.

2. Valid Tennessee, Kentucky, or Alabama driver’s license

3. Ability to read and follow directions.

4. Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

5. TB test within the last 12 months.

6. Satisfactory criminal background check and clear driving record

7. Ability/availability to attend and pass all training course offered and required of Department of Developmental & Intellectual Disabilities (DIDD), PDI, and TennCare Employment Community First.

8. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATIONAL and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required or related experience and or training preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to read and write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers: to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s: ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement: volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions: Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Tennessee, Alabama, or Kentucky driver’s license

CPR, and First Aid Training Provided

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to talk or listen. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Ninety percent of current job couch duties take place outdoors. Job Coaches are to consult with SEC in case of inclement weather. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Schedule may at times be outside of the normal 8-4 hours. Number of hours on the job varies according to client needs. All Job Coaches providing services to Employment Community First (ECF) clients must participate and successfully complete the competency-based course TRN Job Coaching & Consulting.
