IT Help Desk Technician

L.G. Everist, Inc. is a family-owned company founded in 1876. Our 400 employees produce and supply sand, gravel, and quarried stone throughout the Midwest, and provide construction and rail services through our owned subsidiary companies Myrl & Roy’s Paving, Ace Ready Mix, and D&I Railroad.

We are looking to fill a new position of IT Help Desk Technician to serve employees across the organization.

Job Summary


The IT Help Desk Technician is responsible for providing technical support and assistance. They interact with users by phone, email, chat, or in-person to resolve their computer and mobile device problems related to software and hardware issues, and to proactively provide technical support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first contact with users who need technical assistance
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical hardware and/or software issues
  • Provide quick resolution and excellent customer service
  • Research issues and redirect unresolved issues to the next level of IT support as needed
  • Provide needed information on IT products or services
  • Keep a record of problems and their resolution
  • Follow-up with users
  • Provide feedback on processes and make recommendations on areas of improvement, including analyzing and identifying trends in issue reporting and devising and recommending preventive solutions
  • Maintain technical documentation on installation of software, configuration of hardware, and problem troubleshooting

  • In-depth knowledge of computer systems and mobile devices
  • Hands-on experience with diagnosing and resolving basic technical issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Software technical skills: Proficient with MS Office and rapid uptake of a variety of other software applications.


Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required. An associate or bachelor’s degree with a major in IT is preferred.

Minimum two years previous working experience as an IT Help Desk Technician.


Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
