SUMMARY

The IM/FM Instructor is responsible for providing on-going teaching to medical students in internal medicine and family practice rotations. In addition, they are responsible for providing support to the providers in these programs as well as other physicians who are in need of technical support in the clinic as well as assistance with medical student education. Works in collaboration with the Outpatient Teams to ensure quality patient care and safety and quality education to the students during the inpatient rotations and outpatient assignments at the Hospital. Helps physicians to ensure that the students have understanding of proper documentation and use of the electronic medical record and utilization management activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES assigned

• 
  Assists in the assurance of smooth daily operations and steady progress towards established goals of the program.
• Works with coordinator of student education and outpatient clinic to establish student curriculum and teaching schedules
• Provides education to the students during internal medicine and family medicine rotations; including appropriate related techniques and usage of equipment and instruments.
• Advise and direct on proper out-patient clinic protocol.
• Educate and advise on proper documentation including proper health history and medication.
• Review physician documentation as it relates to medical necessity, complete appeals as assigned and train the students on these functions. Work in conjunction with the IT department to train all medical students on the use of the electronic medical record
• Lecture on various topics related to types of conditions that present to family practice and internal medicine.
• Lecture on various identified wellness initiatives that are identified by the CDC that need to be initiated in the outpatient setting.
• Critique students’ demonstration of understanding via observation and review of documentation and give constructive feedback.
• Establishes and maintains open and effective communication with all members of the team
• Provides support to the physicians in the medical surgical, CCU and clinics to aid in the provision of quality standards, care and documentation.

  Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
• Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
• Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• 
  Doctor of Medicine
• Strong proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel Advanced PowerPoint skills) and Lotus Notes
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities
• Ability to manage time and strong customer service skills
• Ability to multi-task
