DESCRIPTION

Department Overview

The Office for the Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination (OPHD) is responsible for ensuring the University provides an environment for students, faculty, and staff that is free from discrimination and harassment on the basis of protected categories. OPHD’s mission is to educate the entire UC San Diego community about these issues and to assist with prevention efforts, and prompt and effective resolution of all complaints. OPHD provides analysis and guidance in all areas pertaining to institutional compliance with federal and state laws, and University of California nondiscrimination policies. Reporting directly to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, OPHD conducts civil rights investigations and guides senior campus leadership in all Vice Chancellor areas, including the Medical Center and Health Sciences, as needed.

Position Overview

The Intake & Case Coordinator reports to the Associate Director and Deputy Title IX Officer - Campus in the Office for Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination (OPHD). Under general direction, this position receives and processes complaints received via various channels and tracks them through the lifecycle of the case. Additionally, this position will conduct intake meetings.

The incumbent is responsible for complaint and inquiry intake, case coordination, tracking, reporting and analysis for received by OPHD. This position is the primary point of contact for reporting parties and complainants for the campus. This position maintains data to ensure that complaints are tracked and can provide summary statistics to unit leadership for case management. The Intake & Case Coordinator performs regular data integrity checks to ensure the accuracy of electronic and hardcopy records, and generates reports. The incumbent will also have responsibility for ensuring all case information is accurate, and will organize the case triage and closure processes for all complaints. The Intake & Case Coordinator will follow up on all cases to ensure timely processing and will help set and meet expectations for investigation participants regarding the investigation process and status. This position will maintain the confidentiality of all reports and records in accordance with UC policy, applicable laws regarding records retention and the policies and practices of OPHD.

The Intake & Case Coordinator also facilitates the resolution of moderate to complex informal complaints of discrimination and harassment matters arising under UC and UC San Diego nondiscrimination policies. This position may cross-train with other divisional personnel to provide case management coverage as needed. This position will provide training on OPHD initiatives, UC policy, and applicable laws regarding Title IX and Title VII.

Position is designated "Confidential" within the meaning of the Higher Education Employer/Employee Relations Act (HEERA).

  • Paralegal certificate preferred.

  • Juris Doctor or advanced degree in related area preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience investigating sexual harassment or other equivalently sensitive allegations in an empathetic and confidential manner. Basic knowledge of the complexities of harassment in the educational or employment setting. Basic knowledge of the complexities of harassment in the educational or employment setting. Basic knowledge of laws and regulations related to sexual harassment in the educational or employment setting, or of substantially similar laws and regulations.

  • Experience utilizing best practices and methodologies for conducting investigations, including interviewing, gathering and analyzing evidence, and writing investigation reports.

  • Experience interacting with constituents that are diverse in characteristics such as age, education level, race, gender identity and expression, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds, in a culturally-competent manner.

  • Demonstrated experience in exercising independent judgment in the assessment and planning of workplace investigations.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience in researching, interpreting data, and writing reports.

The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requiring to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment. CANRA Penal Codes and related definitions, requirements, and responsibilities may be obtained online.

  • This position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), and requires immediate reporting of Clery Act crimes occurring on Clery Act geography to the UC San Diego Police Department (UCPD). It is the responsibility of the CSA to ensure they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the Clery Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UCPD without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,400 - $142,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.36 - $68.39

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
