Position Summary
The Instructional Designer works as part of the W&M Law School, consistent with the standards of the Studio for Teaching & Learning Innovation (STLI), to oversee online and hybrid course and executive education development for a wide range of courses, certificates, and programs at the Law School. As both an operational and consultative designer, this individual assists in all phases of planning, designing, developing, producing, and evaluating online and hybrid courses and programs. In some instances, the individual may be consulting with recommendations, but the position is primarily operational whereby the person will help design and build the materials, providing drafts, iterating, and revising with the course instructor or stakeholder. This position is an integral part of the Law School who is comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues and faculty to promote quality teaching and learning experiences, as well as comfortable working independently. The instructional designer brings knowledge of instructional design theory, models, and best practices as they collaborate in various aspects of online and hybrid course and program development. Teamwork, organization, and capacity for iterative feedback are key to the success of this position.

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline such as Education, Instructional Design, or Educational Technology. Appropriate certification combined with several years’ experience in a similar role may be substituted for the degree.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge of instructional design methodologies, teaching and learning theory and pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience with learning technology platforms and learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated competence in instructional design strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform program management and development; conduct implementation of quality programs and services; policy and procedure interpretation, and program assessment and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and navigate multiple projects providing a high-level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and provide and receive ongoing, constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize highly effective organizational skills, time management skills, meet deadlines and navigate multiple projects and related details in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to foster and maintain collegial relationships with a diverse population of constituencies to include, faculty, staff, students, alumni, subject-matter experts, and internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field.


Experience:
  • Experience with and knowledge of online credit and non-credit education opportunities.
  • Proficient in communications and presentation skills.
  • Expertise in time management, delivery of high-quality complex programs, and collaborating with others to achieve programmatic goals.
  • Experience working effectively with faculty, students, and staff members in a higher education context.
  • Experience in resource management.
  • Experience with video, multimedia, or similar educational technologies.
  • Experience with video production.
  • Experience with web design and development.
  • Experience with Quality Matters

Advertised Pay Range
Up to $65,407 commensurate with experience.
