JOB SUMMARY

The In-house Counsel will function as a member of the Textron Aviation Inc. legal department, located in Wichita, Kansas, and will primarily support Textron Aviation’s front-end customer facing sales and marketing organization on a broad range of issues pertaining to domestic and international aircraft sale transactions (new and pre-owned), general aviation matters, customer relations, marketing, communications, and other related issues. Secondarily, the position supports other aspects of the Textron Aviation business as assigned. The successful candidate will be located in Wichita, KS with the sales organization, working directly with business counterparts.

The successful candidate must be an approachable, vocal, solution focused, and proactive business partner. This position requires a candidate with a broad range of legal skills, aviation knowledge, demonstrated expertise in commercial transactions, both domestically and internationally, working knowledge of general aviation, and experience in working with international operations. Candidates with knowledge of UCC contract law, aircraft ownership structures, aircraft registration and Part 91/135 operations is greatly preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Position will be the entry point into the legal department for all commercial aircraft sales.
  • Partner with business leaders and other counterparts, identify legal risks and issues raised in sales and develop risk mitigation strategies, as appropriate.
  • Providing legal support and strategic advice.
  • Provide legal advice and drafting relative to terms and conditions for aircraft sales, maintenance, product support, registration, and other business arrangements for both the domestic and international sales.
  • Support complex legal transactions for Textron Aviation’s businesses in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Support sales and marketing strategy.
  • Develop and deliver training on various preventive and substantive legal and compliance matters for leadership and the business.
  • Participate in and support other legal matters and activities, as required.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for admission to the Kansas bar.
  • Law firm or in-house experience relevant to commercial contracting, procurement, intellectual property, and/or federal government contracts preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven track record of confronting and successfully resolving complex legal, commercial, and compliance matters with significant financial and business impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and weigh business and legal risks; lead strategically, and propose or advance innovative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively, work diplomatically, be approachable, and foster relationships with individuals at all levels including internal contacts, outside attorneys and vendors.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate recommendations and options regarding complex legal issues.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with contract law and the UCC and with analysis, drafting and negotiation of contracts and contract claims.
  • Working knowledge of anti-corruption and anti-money laundering regulatory concerns.
  • Inspires trust and confidence throughout the organization; a drive to deliver quality results on time and in a highly ethical and professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments simultaneously with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • A team player with an open, mature and positive personality who is willing to share and communicate information effectively.
  • Must have strong work ethic and a desire to consistently perform at the highest levels of competence.
