POSITION
: IEP FACILITATOR

POSITION SUMMARY: This position provides leadership in the compliance of federally and state mandated Special Education procedures for students with disabilities within assigned building(s). This includes organizing, and facilitating IEP Team meetings, regularly monitoring IEP files, providing professional development to general and special education staff on compliance/legal issues related to the IEP process, assisting with case management and gathering information/data for investigation of cases and complaints as appropriate. Provides the Department of Special Education with requested information and data for assigned school(s). This position requires regular and ongoing collaboration with the special education school-based administrator(s) at assigned schools.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
:

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

  • A Maryland Professional Eligibility Certificate, Standard Professional Certificate or Advanced Professional Certificate in the appropriate field of education; or
  • A Maryland Conditional Degree Certificate as outlined in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR)
  • Master’s degree or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience teaching special education required.

  • Knowledge of sound instructional practice including purposeful planning that will increase student achievement when measured in a variety of ways.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office; proficiency with Maryland Online IEP preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES
:

  • Develops schedule of IEP meetings for assigned school(s).
  • Organizes and manages the IEP process, ensuring adherence to all regulations and procedures.
  • Facilitates IEP team meetings, including the active engagement of all members.
  • Reviews individual student records for completion and accuracy prior to an IEP meeting.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to the Director of Special Education in regard to the effectiveness of the IEP facilitator program.
  • Attends monthly IEP chairperson trainings and other special education professional development as mandated by the Special Education Department.
  • Coordinates for assigned schools, CCPS Department of Special Education/MSDE’s compliance review activities as part of the Comprehensive Monitoring process.
  • Submits ESY paperwork to the Department of Special Education and assists with the coordination of services for students at assigned school(s).
  • Collaborates regularly with the special education school-based administrator and staff in regard to IEP team meetings and Special Education procedures and processes.
  • Assists the special education school-based administrator with conveying procedures, vision and priorities of the school community, the Department of Special Education and CCPS.
  • Provides technical assistance to staff and parents as appropriate on the IEP process and CCPS procedures.
  • Advises Principal and Director of Special Education when issues of non-compliance are encountered.
  • Provides technical assistance and professional development on the Maryland Online IEP program.
  • Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
  • Comes to work promptly every day.
  • Works flexible hours as necessary.
  • Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
  • Travels from school to school as necessary.


OTHER JOB DUTIES
: (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.) Performs related work as required or assigned by the Principal or the Director of Special Education.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: Position requires significant periods of sedentary work using a computer, monitor, and mouse but may also include periods of standing and walking in a typical school environment. Requires moderate physical effort, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.


FLSA STATUS
: Exempt


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
: Ten (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools’ salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.


EVALUATION
: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.
