Hydrographer

The Real-Time Hydrology Group at JE Fuller needs a Hydrographer to help with the operational and development aspects of our automated flood warning and data collection services. To keep up with our clients’ needs, we are looking for a versatile person to join our small team of scientists and engineers.

We strive to produce increasingly useful decision support systems for our clients with public safety and floodplain management responsibilities by integrating the following resources:

Real-time hydro-meteorological data collection: We solve the challenges associated with the complex task of gathering, processing, and disseminating real-time hydro- meteorological data produced in a variety of formats by cooperating agencies. This takes a team of technically minded problem solvers who take care of the details from installing sensors in remote locations to designing and installing the telemetry systems.

This position will be based at our Tempe, Arizona location with opportunities to work remotely. The position is full-time with benefits including health, dental, 401k and profit sharing. Compensation will depend on experience – we will consider entry-level candidates as well as those with experience.

The Hydrographer will assist the Real-Time Hydrology Group by helping plan, design, install, maintain, and operate remote hydro-meteorological data collection stations (think rain gauges, stream gauges, and weather stations) which use various telemetry methods and protocols including ALERT, ALERT2, Cellular, and Satellite. Tasks may include up to the following types of activities:

• System planning, design, specifications, installation, maintenance, and operations
• Data collection station installation and maintenance in remote locations
• Setup and configuration of sensors, loggers, and data telemetry devices
• Network infrastructure installation, configuration, maintenance
• Coordination within the team and with our customers
• Custom fabrication and system integration
• Electronics testing, troubleshooting, and repairs
• Data review and reporting
• Data and metadata management
• A mix of field work and office work

Minimum requirements for this position include:

• Authorized to work in the US
• Background/interest in Physical and/or Earth Sciences
• Interested in water data
• Versatile and adaptive skill sets
• Ability to work outside and travel

Additional desired experience/skills include the following:

• Handy with tools, truck, trailers, low-voltage electronics, etc.
• Survey methods
• Work at height (ladders and towers)
• Hydrography/Water Data and Analysis

Pay: $28.00 - $31.00 per hour
