This highly motivated and relationship-oriented individual is responsible for providing guidance, counsel, and support to team members and managers at a dynamic food processing facility in Fresno County, CA.

The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for workforce planning and human resources activities, including employee relations, job classifications, compensation, benefits administration, payroll, recruitment and selection, employee evaluations, training and development, workers' compensation, safety, coaching, counseling, and affirmative action.

This position needs to build and foster a relationship of open communication and trust between management and employees at all levels within the organization.


Essential Functions

  • Act as a Business Partner to the Executive Leadership Team, assisting the business to achieve its goals, budget, and plans. Provide necessary advice, counsel, and guidance to line management and employees.
  • Translate the strategic and tactical business and HR plans into local and standardized actions/practices.
  • Provide hands-on leadership to HR Coordinator.
  • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the Human Resources function and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Coordinate the recruitment, interviews, testing, selection, and background checks of candidates to ensure timely and efficient processing to fill vacant positions.
  • Plan and conduct new employee orientations to foster a positive attitude and understanding of the Company, its goals, and its policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records of benefit plan participation, such as insurance and retirement plan(s), and personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting, including, Federal Contractor AA/EEO requirements.
  • Coordinate management training in communications, team building, interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, diversity, discrimination, and sexual harassment.
  • Advise management on the appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Administer FMLA/CFRA, PFL, SDI, and other leaves and benefits coordination, by providing necessary paperwork, documentation, and coordination.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment that supports management education, ongoing communications, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Assist in the administration of benefit programs, such as life, health, dental and disability insurance, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance programs.
  • Conduct wage surveys within the labor market to determine competitive wage rates and make recommendations on increases in wages and benefits for hourly employees.
  • Prepare employee separation notices and related documentation and conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind voluntary separations. Respond to claims for unemployment benefits, as necessary.
  • Remain up to date on California labor code and FLSA pay practices. Develop familiarity with the Company’s payroll & timekeeping system and provide guidance to the payroll clerk in contract and legal wage & hour interpretation.
  • Support and perform a variety of payroll functions involving entering and validating data, processing documents and transactions, and providing customer service as needed.
  • Prepare reports, tracking employee absenteeism and subsequent disciplinary action.
  • Coordinate Quarterly Employee departmental and informational meetings, safety luncheons, and annual employee holiday observation.
  • Process and report employee complaints and/or grievances in a timely manner.
  • Work with the site management team to foster an environment with open communication and fair and consistent treatment for all employees.
  • Assist in the development of company policies and procedures. Updating employee handbook(s) as needed.
  • Coordinate reporting, tracking, and management of Workers’ Compensation claims, and participate in claims reviews, as necessary.
  • Develop and/or update job descriptions for all jobs.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute towards a quality environment.
  • Use initiative and judgment in making decisions, keeping with the Company’s best interests.

The Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • A bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, or a minimum of two – five years’ experience in the HR field, or any similar combination of education and experience.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in a broad range of California and Federal employment law.
  • Prior experience with an HRIS platform is a plus.
  • The position will be required to demonstrate an ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with co-workers, managers, and team members.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and advanced computer literacy is required.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation.
