Leidos currently has an excellent opportunity for a Human Factors Engineer to support the Habitability and Human Factors Branch at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

This team provides research, analysis, evaluation and usability testing of hardware and software crew interfaces for cockpits, habitats, spacesuits, and equipment. This includes computer displays and controls, workstation systems, and other types of crew interfaces.

The successful candidate will support Gateway Habitation and Logistics Output (HALO) project. Activities consist of providing support to the design and development of the human-to-system interfaces, including: requirements interpretation and verification planning, task analysis, human error analysis, and iterative crew evaluations.

Candidate must have US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency, and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide human systems expertise to the design and development of human-to-system interfaces in an integrated and collaborative fashion by supporting the design, development, and preparation of deliverables.
  • Conduct cognitive task analysis at both system and component levels.
  • Perform human error analysis by identifying potential sources of human error and actions to mitigate sources of human error through design recommendations.
  • Conduct Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) testing by developing test plans, coordinating with facilities, collaborating with subject matter experts, conducting data collection and analysis, and delivering presentations to program management throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Provide human factors consulting services to include: design, prototyping, surveys / interviews, heuristic evaluation, cognitive walkthroughs, and / or usability testing of human-system interfaces.
  • Provide verification planning and execution for usability, workload, anthropometry, range of motion, strength, etc.
  • Support technical reviews such Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR).


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related technical discipline (ex. Human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, Industrial Engineering) and 3+ years of prior experience
  • Experience in human-centered design principles, task analysis, human error analysis, and verification HITL testing
  • Collaborator with the ability to work successfully in a multidisciplinary team and the flexibility to adapt quickly to changing requirements
  • Demonstrates strong communication and presentations skills (oral and written formats) in both informal and formal settings
  • MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, Industrial Engineering)
  • Experience with spacecraft layout and crew workstation design and evaluation
  • Prior experience supporting NASA programs
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1472, NASA-STD-3001), and advanced technologies (e.g., eye trackers, physiological measures, mixed reality interfaces) is a plus.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $63,050.00 - $97,000.00 - $130,950.00
