Current Work Schedule

Schedules will be arranged according to the Library’s need and individual availability with no guaranteed number of assigned hours. Preference will be given to applicants with flexible schedules. Schedules may include days and/or evenings.



Salary Range

Salary

Commensurate with academic preparation and work experience. Minimum starting salary is $44.12/hr. for a Master’s degree; maximum starting salary is $67.18/hr. for a doctorate and eight years of experience.

Basic Function/Definition

Rio Hondo College Library offers a wide variety of materials in support of the curriculum and the information needs of students, faculty and staff. The collection includes over 80,000 books and a variety of online databases. The library’s instructional program teaches over 3,000 students per semester through personalized library orientations, library workshops, reference consultations, and our 3-unit Library Science course.



Essential Duties

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in library science, or library and information science from an ALA accredited institution
OR
A valid California Community College Credential authorizing service in the appropriate subject matter
AND
Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction and supervision of the area supervisor, provide reference service, library instruction, and assistance with special projects as assigned. This position may require a combination of day and evening assignments. The successful candidate should have: a knowledge of and concern for the instructional needs of community college students; the ability to work with faculty, staff, and administration in a collegial environment; commitment to innovation and excellence; demonstrated communication skills; flexibility and initiative in a changing environment; the ability to work well in collaborative teams.



Foreign Degrees

Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.

Desired Qualifications

Desirable experience:
Recent work experience or internship in a college or public library in Reference, Library Instruction, and at least one of the following areas: Online Databases, Collection Management, Online Tutorials, Instructional Assessment, and Web Development. Recent graduates or graduate students nearing graduation are welcome to apply. Must have MLIS before hiring date.
