LOCATION: Remote

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB:
The Healthcare Data Scientist partners with stakeholders from all business units and related third parties to build a framework for population health analytics; analyze and make inferences from healthcare data; identify, lead and participate in predictive analytics projects; develop stratification algorithms and approaches for the organization; and provide advice to other teams for designing and building efficient infrastructure architectures for claims data analysis, data cleansing, data transformation, and data integration.

The individual in this position must be highly motivated, meticulous, and detail-oriented. The incumbent will be instrumental in analyzing and making inferences from healthcare data and must be goal-oriented. He/she should have a background in healthcare – preferably both behavioral and physical health – as well as a strong background in statistics with some programming skills.

Note:
This position requires access to and use of confidential healthcare information or protected health information (PHI) as described in laws addressing patient confidentiality, including, but not limited to, the federal HIPAA law, the Confidentiality of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Patient Records law, 42 CFR Part 2, and various state laws. As such, the individual filling this position shall be required to be trained regarding such laws and shall be required to observe those laws in his/her capacity as an employee of Vaya Health. The individual filling this position shall also sign a confidentiality statement as an employee of Vaya Health.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Partner closely with the business leadership team to select business domain problems for analysis.
  • Perform meticulous and well thought-out analysis of healthcare data including the development, training, testing, and implementation of models for risk assignment, stratifying data, predicting values, and prescribing actions designed to create positive outcomes.
  • Perform meticulous and well thought-out analysis of financial data (including healthcare claims data) for fraud detection and to develop prescriptive algorithms for effective use of funds.
  • Detailed documentation of data analysis methods and presentation of results internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with the MIS development team and infrastructure teams to assist in architecting an infrastructure optimized for data analysis.
  • Assist in setting the strategy for organizing, hiring, training, and supporting other analysts as the company expands into greater population health and financial risk management analytics.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Enterprise Analytics Director or other Vaya management.

QUALIFICATIONS & CREDENTIALING REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Statistics, Epidemiology Public Health Data Science or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience in statistics, epidemiology, public health, data science, or a related field. Ph.D. is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparation and analysis of documents; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
  • Physical activity in this position includes crouching, reaching, walking, talking, hearing and repetitive motion of hands, wrists and fingers.
  • Sedentary work with lifting requirements up to 10 pounds, sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Mental concentration is required in all aspects of work.

KNOWLEDGE OF JOB:
  • Strong healthcare knowledge; preferably clinical knowledge across behavioral, physical health, and pharmacy specialties.
  • Advanced knowledge of applied statistics, optimization techniques, and study design and the ability to apply this knowledge to real-world healthcare business situations.
  • Experience working with healthcare claims, pharmacy data, and electronic health record (EHR) data.
  • Proficiency in SQL (Microsoft T-SQL preferred) and R is required. Proficiency in Python is desirable.
  • High level of computer literacy with spreadsheets, word processing and database software and business systems (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, VISIO, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently; demonstrated by developing, owning, and driving relevant, meaningful analysis with little guidance or input
  • Willingness to challenge established processes; extremely creative in using uncommon sources of data; conducting novel analyses; establishing new conventions
  • Proven problem solver, with the ability to understand complex processes and applications
  • Must possess the integrity and decision making skills necessary to work with and protect confidential personal health information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to articulate ideas clearly and communicate strategically with senior leaders


SALARY:
Depending on qualifications & experience of candidate. This position is exempt and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
