Summary

Compiles, verifies, prepares, and files medical records of hospital or other health care facility by performing the following duties.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Prepares folders and maintains records of all types of patients.

Reviews all types of medical records for completeness, assembles records into standard

order, and files records in designated areas according to applicable alphabetic and numeric filing systems.

Resolves record deficiencies, locates, signs out, and delivers medical records requested by hospital departments.

Responds to all requests for information from files according to established policies and procedures in a courteous and timely manner.

Monitors delinquent medical records, letters and reports.

Operates computer to enter and retrieve data and type correspondence and reports.

Posts results of testing and procedures to records.

Selects and packages files for movement, transfer, and permanent storage.

Interacts with the medical staff for completion of medical records.

Answers telephone calls promptly and courteously.

Prepares birth certificates, obtains parents signatures and releases to state in accordance with policy and procedure.

Scans records into Electronic Medical Record.

Provides adequate office coverage to respond to needs of department.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three month related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
