Schedule: Full-Time, seasonal position, 24 hour shifts, Monday-Friday with flexibility available for the right candidate

Compensation: Salary range from $10,500 - $12,000 commensurate with experience

Room and Board: Private room with AC and all meals provided

Overview

Meadowmount School of Music seeks to hire a full-time seasonal Head Nurse/Health
Director for our summer program. This person will be responsible for overseeing the health program on campus including a three bed infirmary, ensuring the health and safety of all campers and staff throughout the summer. This position reports to the Camp Director.

Applicants should be a RN or LPN currently licensed in New York State with First
Aid/CPR/AED certification. This person must be comfortable working within New York State requirements for a summer camp health professional, and have experience working with patients 13-30 years old. They should work well under pressure and have the ability to interact with staff, parents, and students. Candidates must be personable, flexible, hard workers, team players, and have a strong desire to create a positive, safe, and healthy environment for students and staff alike.

Responsibilities

• Supervise health and sanitation on campus for campers and staff
• Maintain confidential medical records for campers
• Maintain camp's daily medical log
• Oversee initial health screening of campers and daily health surveillance of camp occupants
• Handle health emergencies and injuries, including emergency preparedness and provisions for professional health care
• Report required incidents to local health department within 24 hours
• Store, prepare, and dispense medications – prescriptions and over-the-counter
• Perform daily sick call
• Communicate specific camper health needs (allergies, special diets, etc.) to staff
• Communicate with counselors, staff, faculty, and parents as needed
• Cooperate with local doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies
• Accompany sick/injured campers or staff to the hospital or to medical appointments
• Have a plan in place for any communicable disease outbreaks
• Maintain infirmary and equipment
• Attend staff meetings as requested

Qualifications and Requirements

• Current New York State licensed RN (preferred) or LPN
• Must be available for live-in 24 hour shifts
• Self-directed
• Good bedside manner with a friendly and personable demeanor
• Strong assessment abilities
• Prior experience with 13 to 30 year-olds
• Certified CPR for Professional Rescuer and Responding to Emergencies (RTE)
• Ability to move quickly, on foot if needed, around the campus to provide emergency first aid and medical evaluation
• Wilderness First Aid certification a plus
• Prior experience working at a summer camp as a health professional a plus

Meadowmount’s Program

Founded in 1944, Meadowmount School of Music is a seven-week summer program for young violinists, violists, and cellists whose approach of intensive study and practice has helped mold some of the greatest artists of our time. Musicians ages 13 to 30+ from around the world gather at the school’s campus in the Adirondack Mountains to further their musical studies with, in the founder’s words, “a special spirit that is conducive to total concentration on excellence in musical performance.”

With a capacity enrollment of 200 on the 52-building, 240-acre campus, the school retains an intimacy that provides for personal attention and fosters camaraderie among the students. Many of the school’s alumni return as members of the faculty, ensuring the continuity of the Meadowmount teaching tradition.

Students follow a rigorous practice regimen, receive weekly private lessons and chamber music coaching and are offered daily master classes by faculty and guest artists. Students perform frequently in concerts throughout the session. Concerts, chamber music coaching, chamber music rehearsals, studio classes, rehearsals with accompanists, master classes and special events are scheduled in the afternoons and evenings, and off-campus recreational activities are offered afternoons and weekends.
