Harbor Deckhand- Joliet/Lemont, IL Location

The Harbor Deckhand is responsible for safely locking and unlocking vessels to and from the harbor and making sure those vessels are loaded, unloaded, and ready for transport while prioritizing safety at all times.

Harbor Duties:

Cleaning, washing, painting, scraping, and other general maintenance of vessels

Loading, unloading, and general maintenance of operation according to safety procedures including, but not limited to, tying off barges, running conveyors, pumps, and handling medium to large sized construction equipment

Examine cables, wires, and lines before and after locking and docking activities to ensure they are fit for continued use

Build tows using cables and lines in order to assist those on the vessel in preparing barges for the loading, transporting, and discharging of aggregate barges

Deckhand Requirements:

Boarding barges or other marine vessels, as necessary, to move pumps, conveyors, and other appropriate equipment

Requirements

· Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)-Ability to obtain within 30 days

· Knowledge of marine terminology, technology, and equipment necessary for the job

· Valid Driver’s License preferred

· Ability to ware safety PPE and follow safety procedures

· Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (hot/cold environments)

Ability to work 7 days of day shift, 7 days night shift, 7 days off rotation schedule.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $56,635.00 per year
