Position Overview

The Illinois School for the Visually Impaired is seeking to hire a Guard II. The Guard II will be responsible for performing scheduled security inspections alone and on foot during an assigned shift of the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired buildings, grounds, and parking areas. In addition, the Guard II will scan security buttons when checking doors for security; monitor campus vehicle traffic and parking lots; respond to emergency situations and prepare written reports of activities and incidents to supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled security inspections alone and on foot during an assigned shift of the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired buildings, grounds, and parking areas.

  • Scans security buttons when checking doors for security.

  • Monitors campus vehicle traffic and parking lots.

  • Responds to emergency situations and prepares written reports of activities and incidents to supervisor.

  • Utilizes a variety of software and automated computer systems to frequently check emails and complete documents and reports to submit to supervisor.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scopes of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.

  • Requires completion of six months of safety and security experience as a watch attendant, security guard or related position.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to climb stairs, chasing eloping students and walk for extended periods on a shift.

  • Requires ability to communicate security regulations, general information and direct and control public with firmness, courtesy, and tact.

  • Requires ability to recognize security breaches and safety hazards and provide initial response to same.

  • Requires ability to complete security training, follow written procedures and work instructions and to organized observed facts.

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: Thurs - Fri: 12:00am - 8:00am, Sat - Sun: 4:00pm - 12:00pm, Mon: 10:00am - 6:00pm
