Under the supervision of the Chief Development Officer, the Grant Writer is responsible for researching, identifying, writing and submitting grant submissions. This position works within the Development Department for Exceptional Children’s Foundation in Culver City, CA.

Your essential duties and responsibilities as a Grant Writer will include:
  • Researching, identifying, and evaluating private funding opportunities that match program, operational, and capital needs. You will interpret grant regulations and guidelines to determine eligibility and appropriate match.
  • Writing and submitting grant applications to secure funds necessary to meet annual fundraising goals. Developing and submitting grant compliance reports.
  • Working collaboratively with program staff to maintain ongoing knowledge of the activities and programs throughout the organization.
  • Maintaining grant management tracking tools, including master calendar, submission logs, etc., to ensure compliance with all application and report schedules.
  • Processing grant applications and declinations. Preparing grant award notifications and distributing to appropriate staff.
Your additional duties:
  • Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
  • Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
  • Complete special projects and other assignments as designated by the CDO.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively as member of Development Department team and provide support for various fundraising projects as needed.
You should have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Five years in a non-profit environment researching, writing and submitting grant applications, funding reports, and related correspondence to funding sources.
  • A strong ability to craft clear and compelling funding proposals, including demonstrated success in writing proposals resulting in awards of $50,000 and above.
  • A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants. Experience working with major foundations and corporate giving programs in Southern California.
  • Understand principles of nonprofit organizations and all related fund development processes.
  • Working knowledge of research databases (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, Foundation Directory Online).
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and with competing deadlines.
You must have:
  • Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of car insurance, and insurable driving record.
  • Pass a DOJ background investigation.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.
