Overview

The Institute Grant Writer II is responsible for creating proposal preparation time lines, editing, and packaging completed applications in coordination with Institute Operations staff. The position may assist the Senior Grant Writers with sections of large federal proposals, such as literature reviews, compiling of base line statistics for particular populations. The Institute Grant Writer II will maintains an updated system of extensive resource materials/data for use in the preparation of proposals and company “fact sheets.” This position is responsible for responding and developing full proposals for the more routine federal, state and county RFPs, as well as to coordinate and manage the internal proposal application process, including developing proposal budgets. The position is responsible for producing concept papers that expand and enhance understanding of AltaMed activities. The Institute Grant Writer will work within the AltaMed Institute of Health Equity (AIHE) and help to promote a learning health care system approach that engages patient-clinician partnerships, science and informatics, and a culture of learning and supportive system competencies. The Institute Grant Writer II coordinates and occasionally leads an internal proposal development team process, both soliciting information from staff, and crafting the narrative and budget of a proposal under the supervision of the Vice President. The proposal team may include Principal Investigator PhDs from academic institutions. The Institute Grant Writer II will be responsible for the timely completion of the proposal development process by the submission of a comprehensive application by the RFP deadline. This position may also proactively seek funding opportunities to be presented to leadership for approval to pursue. This position may also develop concept papers that explain and showcase best practices that expand and enhance the AltaMed Institute for Health Equity activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and produce project/ program proposals, grant applications, and concept papers that expand and enhance understanding of Institute activities.
  • Under the direction of the Vice President or Senior Grant Writers, manage aspects of proposal preparation to ensure complete, accurate, timely, high-quality submission that conform with requirements of potential funders.
  • Assist senior grant writers and program staff in multi-sectoral, multi-year proposal development
  • Support the initial implementation of grant programs by collaborating with grant managers and coordinators and other staff.
  • Create appropriate program budgets, implementation timelines and deliverables, and quantifiable goals and objectives for proposals.
  • Develop and define an application strategy that will present the most compelling case for funding.
  • Understand current AltaMed program and project activities and help to identify opportunities to integrate evidence-based, industry-accepted models of intervention and services.
  • Represent AltaMed and assist with grant application activities with community partners.
  • Support the linking of funding opportunities and the leveraging of opportunities for AltaMed current and projected needs.
  • Maintain and expand knowledge of health -related topics, current events, policy updates, local/ regional/ national health care issues.
  • Provide technical assistance to junior and new Institute staff.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S. degree required. Master’s in health services preferred.
  • 5 years grant writing experience recommended, preferably in the health care nonprofit sector

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience and skill with writing and editing responses to funding opportunities
  • Experience in developing grant budgets
  • Awareness of academic research, innovative service delivery programs, and community health centers required.
  • Experience in performing systematic literature and data reviews to establish baseline in any given area
  • Experience in developing and managing internal staff teams during proposal development.
  • Ability to maintain productive working relationships with providers and administrators in a community health setting and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal providers, staff, and administrative officers.
  • Demonstrated success in assisting in the proposal development process.
  • Demonstrated excellence in using Windows Operating systems, Microsoft Office, Internet, Webex, etc.
  • Experience in transforming disparate information into a cohesive, compelling narratives.
  • Ability to deal with pressure of deadlines, and to multi-task and be exceptionally organized in project and tasks utilizing project management techniques.
  • Must be articulate, self-motivating and detail oriented with an exceptional ability to analyze and summarize.
  • Must have cultural competency and experience in dealing with underserved populations, resulting in a fluid ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively, culturally, and with sensitivity to all population groups served.

Pay: $81,120.00 - $125,881.60 per year
