Position Summary
The University of Illinois Chicago seeks a Graduate Hourly – Contracts Analyst for the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). This is a fully remote, full-time position during the summer with the possibility of transitioning to part-time during the academic year. This position performs professional level duties related to the review and acceptance of all awards/agreements received in support of sponsored program activities for the Chicago, Peoria and Rockford campuses of the University of Illinois. This position handles transactional contract negotiations with a variety of parties, including governmental, corporate, and foreign. The incumbent will obtain first-hand experience negotiating research contracts and non-disclosure agreements tackling issues such as intellectual property ownership, publication, confidentiality, indemnification, liabilities, termination, and insurance.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Under the supervision and direction of OSP Assistant Directors and department leadership, and in consultation as needed with other University compliance units and the Office of University Counsel, review and assist with negotiation of non-disclosure agreements and other sponsored research contracts that may be entered into by the University.
  • Review, interpret, and negotiate non-disclosure agreements and other sponsored research contracts on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois under the direction of OSP Team Leads and department leadership, and in consultation with the Office of University Counsel and other University compliance units, as needed.
  • Evaluate and interpret non-disclosure agreements and other sponsored research contracts for the appropriate set-up in establishing sponsored project account.
  • Route contracts to the appropriate University official/faculty/academic unit staff to ensure necessary approvals are obtained and the contracts are executed on a timely basis.
  • Provide faculty and academic unit staff information concerning the status of contracts throughout the development, negotiation and approval process. Provide notification when the necessary approvals are obtained.
  • Verify approvals and communicate with applicable compliance offices on human subject, animal, and bio-hazard research.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and must be currently pursuing a Law Degree.
  • Must be a law student who has completed at least one full semester of legal study.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are able to continue working into the fall semester and potentially the spring semester as well.

  • Demonstrated interest in contract law.
  • Detail-oriented and organized individual.
  • Work well in collaborative fast-paced environment; ability to work remotely in a virtual environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent research, writing and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Adept use of Microsoft Office Suite of products, including Word and Teams, and Adobe.
