JOB DESCRIPTION – FRONT END DEPARTMENT MANAGER

REQUIRED RESULTS:

1. Achievement of excellent customer service through a team of friendly, efficient Front End cashiers and courtesy clerks that provide fast, friendly, and accurate service to our customers.

2. Achievement of efficient and knowledgeable operation of Front End Technology i.e.: IBM POS system, U-SCAN, as well as, Customer Care Operations.

3. Development of a friendly, well-trained, and efficient Front End team through effective orientation, communication, training, and providing feedback to each employee to ensure productive work climate.

4. Achievement of consistently high standards in daily service levels, safety, and sanitation to uphold our reputation for friendly, helpful service.

5. Achievement of a high degree of cash control in order to insure the Front End is operation within
Division policy guidelines (including bad check loss, cash, Western Union, Money Orders, FE shrink, bag expense and credit card charge backs)

SALES DEVELOPMENT:

1. Analyzing Competition

  • Achieve full potential of Front End through knowledge of competition in order to maintain competitive edge

2. Customer Relations

  • Ensure that all customer inquiries and/or complaints handled quickly and efficiently to achieve a high degree of customer satisfaction
  • Efficiently handle all special requests for product and/or services
  • Manage the dept. in such a way that every customer receives prompt, courteous service

3. Community Relations

  • Effectively interacts with local community as a representative of your store
  • Effectively manages round up and community donations

FRONT END DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS:

1. Cash Control

  • Supervises all aspects of cash control in order to achieve accurate, timely reporting
  • Maintains daily records of each cashier with regard to over/short, scan %, voids and productivity
  • Coordinates cash control on the registers to ensure the deposits are made regularly
  • Cash Level management, oversees change order, deposits and acceptable cash levels

2. Scheduling

  • Schedules Front End personnel to provide adequate coverage and to achieve high levels of department readiness and customer service, especially during peak business hours
  • Verify that schedules are consistent with sales forecasts, wage and OR budgets
  • Is familiar with, and utilizes, super-sked scheduling for maximum utilization of Cashiers and

Courtesy Clerks, especially during peak business hours
3. Security

  • Ensure all dept. and store personnel follow company procedure on employee purchase policy
  • Train Front End Staff to be observant and how to handle shoplifters

4. Maintenance and Safety

  • Ensure all Front End Technology equipment and check stands are fully functional, and are maintained in good operating condition
  • Ensure employees comply with Store and Dept. safety procedures (STAR Program)
  • Instruct and monitor employees on proper use of dept. and store equipment
  • Ensure safe working and shopping environment for all employees and customers
  • Maintain “Lot Duty” log

5. Sanitation

  • Identify and correct any unsafe or unsanitary conditions
  • Demonstrate to employees the proper cleaning and sanitation techniques
  • Operates Front End in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances to avoid fines, citations, and other punitive action
  • Maintain Sweep Log

6. Miscellaneous Income Management

  • Controls in place to properly balance Money Orders, Western Union, Lottery and Ticket

7. Sales Floor Management

  • Walk the Front End throughout the day in order to interact with, and be visible to customers and employees, as well as review dept. readiness and condition
  • Identify opportunity areas and provide necessary direction for correction
  • Establish priorities for employee work assignments
  • Ensures that all check stands supplied with current information i.e.: produce roller codes are kept updated, Deli Scan Bar code sheet, Yellow UPC Scan discrepancy cards
  • Front End properly stocked with Kroger Plus cards, Gift cards and Phone Cards

EXPENSE CONTROL:

1. Wage Control

  • Schedule Cashiers and Courtesy clerks so as to minimize the impact of overtime and to achieve Department wage and OR budgets

2. Other Expense Control * Supervise the ordering of store supplies, and bags to achieve store objectives3. Shrink Control

  • Plans and implements an effective shrink control program to minimize losses and to achieve shrink % budget through proper training and communication with all FE employees
  • Knowledge of investigative tools, such as Electronic Journal and View Summary Journals
  • Reviews Audit Action report, Void, Refund and Void Transactions reports weekly
  • Audits cashier coupons daily
  • Educates all Front End employees on the importance of watching Bottom of the Bascart
  • Front End employees use “Thank you for shopping Kroger” stickers on large items not bagged
  • Effectively educating all new hires on all aspects of “Shrink” – what it is, and how to prevent
  • Audits “You could have Saved” transactions daily

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:

1. Personnel Management

  • Knows and communicates standards of performance for each job to all Front End employees in order to achieve high standards of presentation and service
  • Set performance goals for employees; provide regular feedback on performance
  • Read, understand and manage the department within union contract guidelines

2. Management Communication

  • Participates in all Store Board Meetings in order to review past results and plan future activities
  • Communicates with Store Management, Zone and KMA Staff to discuss weekly sales, scheduling, personnel issues, cash control, and other problem or opportunity areas
  • Keep all employees informed about matters that concern them on their jobs
  • Assist Unit Manager in Shrink Trax Coaching sessions

3. Personnel Development

  • Interview and select individuals for employment on the Front End
  • Supervises training and development of all Cashiers and Courtesy Clerks to ensure personal and career growth of each employee
  • Instruct and train employees in learning new job assignments
  • Coaches employees as needed on career opportunities, personal problems, work schedules
  • Delegates certain duties to capable Front End employees
