Job Title: Freight Forwarding Operations Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Freight Forwarding Operations Supervisor is responsible for the freight forwarding operation and team at Approved Freight Forwarders. They will be the primary leader to ensure the team day to day functions are accomplished in a timely and efficient manner. This position will assist in managing carrier relations and pricing negotiation for quotes and contracts.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Interviews prospective employees and chooses the best applicant based on skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the job.
  • Trains and oversees employees involved in freight forward functions.
  • Directs assigned tasks and assists team members as needed.
  • Conducts performance evaluation and other management functions as appropriate.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures team follows customer services standards
  • Address training opportunities/gaps and work closely with employees to take corrective action on all deficiencies.
  • Provide coaching to employees in areas specific to key performance indicators and standards of work performance and align behavior with organizational expectations in the areas of attendance, punctuality, performance, and workplace conduct.
  • Ensures that the staff follows standard operating procedures, taking the appropriate action when performance does not meet targets and objectives.
  • Assists the development of safety protocols and ensures they are followed
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong experience managing activity for all phases of US export/import, air, road, and ocean shipping
  • Mastery of all import and export documentation
  • Expert experience with all phases of domestic air shipping processes. Hawaii/PR/Guam
  • Proven experience with leading and developing teams.
  • Strong account management, spot quoting, and account development experience
  • Prioritize workloads for self and staff to meet KPIs
  • Determined problem solver with the experience to understand, address and resolve issues that arise in day-to-day operations.
  • Proactively review services and procedures as part of a continuous improvement culture
  • Maintain current relationships and grow our network of vendors to support growth
  • Experience working with teams to set objectives, and goals and perform one on one reviews.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Company policies and TSA and FMC rules and regulations.
  • Understanding of US Customs, CTPAT, 10+2 processes, and general compliance.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and vendors.
  • Understand worldwide trade routes and have strong relationships with local carriers and vendors.
  • Drive expectations of data integrity, routing, revenue/cost, on-time pickup/ delivery and shipment status through system reports, dashboards, and business intelligence reports.
  • Rate negotiations with air and ocean carriers and brokers (contracts)

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in domestic, import and export, air, road and ocean, freight forwarding.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask.
  • Team player, resourceful and self-motivated.
  • Ability to meet timeliness under pressure.
  • Good customer relation skills.
  • Strong verbal and business writing communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Previous management experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.

The salary for this position is $65,000 per year.
