RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervising Routing
  • Manages, trains, and develops Fleet Planner Is, Fleet Planner IIs, and Fleet Planning Analysts; coordinates with Fleet Planner IIs for advanced training and development of Fleet Planner Is.
  • In coordination with the Manager develops and implements department schedules, overtime, and attendance guidelines.
  • Leads Fleet Planners in the formulation of weekly routing plans to ensure that all branches are routed efficiently and effectively.
  • Responsible for ensuring routes are performed within tolerances set each year during planning phases.
  • Manages and coordinates the data entry for routing – ensuring its integrity while maintaining data for special requirements of school delivery or pickups in all systems by the Routing group.
  • Together with Manager and Director, leads routing analysis for Network Optimization efforts which impact all branches in Book Fairs.
  • Oversees integration of Scholastic Division shipments on Book Fairs fleet.
  • Conducts touch bases, coaching, and annual performance evaluations of all direct reports.
  • Coordinates Time Off requests to ensure proper coverage and adherence to company policy.
  • Tracks and manages direct reports’ overtime against budget.
  • Helps define and develop potential of all direct reports.
Routing
  • Oversees and strategizes routing for specialized areas as Subject Matter Expert (e.g., Canada branches, dedicated outsource, trailer utilization).
  • Responsible for the coordination and completion of assigned fleet routing tasks.
  • Maximizes utilization of equipment and drivers by using fleet routing software and following department Best Practices.
  • Maintains a high level of communication with Operations, Distribution, and Sales contacts to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
  • Performs all tasks related to operating the fleet routing software for the branch facilities and reviewing the route data for accuracy.
  • Responsible for creating, data entry, and reporting of certain Sales/Operations/Distribution Scorecard metrics.
  • Complete additional job related tasks and responsibilities, requested by Manager.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor degree in Business Management, Supply Chain/Logistics, STEM or related subject preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year previous supervisory/management experience preferred. Exhibited leadership activity within the Fleet Planning department may be an acceptable alternative. Strong leadership and coaching skills required.
  • Previous background in fleet dispatching and routing internal fleet desired. Strong technical knowledge of mapping programs. Experience with Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) preferred.
  • Experience/knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations – DOT and OSHA regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent technical knowledge in MS Office Suite (e.g. Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Proven record of establishing process and procedures.
  • Strong analytical ability and team player mentality. Ability to work independently.
  • Customer Service focused. Clear communication skills including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Exceptional at relationship building.
  • Multi-task orientated, efficient, and accurate under pressure.
  • Ability to regularly interface with middle and upper management.
  • Ability to flex weekly work hours seasonally, with expected increases during peak season and ebbs during off season.
