Description
Do you love working outdoors? Do you want to work in the woods or on the water? Then become a Fish and Wildlife Interim for Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Performs beginning level technical work in a fishery, wildlife management program, habitat management program, or research program.

Our Fish and Wildlife Technician I's are eligible for paid leave, paid holidays, and employee discounts.

This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.

Travel, extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment and wildlife may pose hazards.

Incumbent must be able to bend, stoop, climb, crawl and walk.

Job Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Transports fish and wildlife throughout state and releases them into appropriate habitat.
  • Feeds, waters and cares for fish and wildlife while in care of agency.
  • Performs maintenance work on equipment and facilities.
  • Assists biologists and other professionals in the execution of their duties.
  • Interacts with public as assigned by supervisors.
  • Learns to operate heavy and technical equipment at fish hatcheries and wildlife management areas.
  • Learns to collect data concerning fish and wildlife and to prepare reports.
  • Assist in the performance of soil and water tests and plants and cultivates agricultural crops to serve as food for wildlife.
  • Assists in the creation and/or restoration of terrestrial and aquatic habitat through environmentally accepted construction and development practices.
  • Assists in the identification and marking of boundaries of habitat and department held lands.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in fisheries or wildlife management will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
