Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Financial Aid Counselor, under the direction of the Assistant Director, provides financial aid services to students on a wide basis. The Financial Aid Counselor will conduct student need analysis, perform federal verifications and packaging of student aid, provide financial aid counseling to facilitate problem-solving with students and parents and maintain the scholarship award management system. Incumbents in this job classification will interact with specific outside agencies to facilitate the student eligibility process and they are accountable for ensuring compliance with federal regulations. Must be comfortable speaking to large groups of students and parents. Must have strong organization and time management skills. Must have excellent customer service skills, and be dedicated to providing consistent, high-quality customer service to meet the needs of our diverse clientele.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 1-2 years of financial aid experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must have the ability and knowledge to assist in multiple areas throughout the office.
- The candidate must exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Because of the nature of the data in relation to student’s academic record, attention to detail when reviewing and entering data is extremely important.
- It is critical to the office that the candidate possesses the ability to work in and promote a team environment and has the ability to interpret and communicate information based on knowledge of institutional policies, procedures, and departmental considerations.
Preferences:
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the area of scholarships is preferred.
- Knowledge of an automated data processing system and one year experience in customer service with experience in a financial aid office preferred.
- Knowledge of Title IV regulations, policies and procedures is preferred.
- Strong counseling skills and experience preferred

Physical Demands
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages and other items, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.
