Field Technician

Athena is a multi-disciplinary consulting firm that provides geotechnical and environmental consulting along with construction engineering and inspection (CEI) and construction materials testing (CMT) services. Typical clients include public organizations (federal, state, and local), transportation agencies (highways and airports), private and commercial entities. Athena is headquartered in Nashville, TN and currently has branch offices in Chattanooga, TN; Bowling Green, KY; and Pensacola, FL.

Job Overview:

Athena’s environmental services group in Nashville is seeking a Field Technician to perform inspections and audits of construction permits at sites throughout Nashville, TN. This position consists of almost 100% field work. This position requires a hard-working, safe, efficient, and dedicated employee that is excited to receive on the job training and is able to work independently once trained. It will require work both independently and with other team members and may require periodic overtime and local travel. This position offers an opportunity to learn a wide variety of environmental and construction inspection skills, along with working with a great team. Job duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Investigates complaints, request for services and/or instances of non-compliance.
• Gathers data and facts through on-site investigations.
• May review documents, both current and historical.
• Interviews pertinent individuals to gather specific facts.
• May hear and investigate complaints.
• May issue citations to violators.
• Assists with resolving complaints from consumers or noncompliance instances.
• Decides best course of action to resolve complaint or noncompliance.
• Refers unusual or difficult cases to supervisor or appropriate division for direction.
• May conduct follow-up investigation to ensure issue is resolved.
• Performs administrative activities.
• Answers elementary questions about program and guidelines.
• Interprets policies, rules and regulations as required.
• Writes detailed reports of investigations.
• Maintains records and preserves reports.
• Prepares concise reports on programs or projects.

Skills/Qualifications:

• 2-5 years of experience conducting construction engineering and inspection (CEI) and/or construction materials testing (CMT) field work
• High school diploma
• Ability to multi-task with evolving project requirements for multiple ongoing projects
• Able to work in a high pressure environment with tight delivery deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and properly document field data
• Detail oriented
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs. unassisted
• Valid drivers license
• Good communication and people skills

Optional:

• 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification
• 10-Hour OSHA Construction certification
• TN ACM Inspector Accreditation
• Experience working with MS Word, Excel, and all programs under MS Office

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $26.50 per hour
