Current target counties in the Southwest Region includes the following: Clark, Clinton, Darke, Fayette, Franklin, Greene, Miami, Mercer, Montgomery Pickaway, Preble, Shelby, and Warren. Target counties identified based on community needs and may change as needs in the region change.
Job Summary:
Extension Educators provide the link between Land Grant University research and Ohio
residents by creating innovative learning opportunities that address local issues. Dedicated to
helping improve the quality of life for current and future residents, Educators collaborate with
local, county and state agencies, partner organizations, businesses and schools to analyze needs,
develop, implement and oversee vibrant and sustainable research based educational programs,
and provide resources and expertise to the local community. A critical aspect of this position is
to strengthen the inclusion of all relevant stakeholders, with special efforts to reach those
historically underserved by Extension. Given the demographic and economic diversity of
communities and neighborhoods in the assigned region the Extension educator is expected to
take a proactive role connecting and engaging with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
The Community and Economic Development (CED) Extension Educator will be assigned to
work within the southwest region, although they may have to travel to other regions on an as needed
basis; the day-to-day workstation will be as a teleworker. The CED Educator builds
partnerships with county and regional agencies, area community economic development
authorities, city governments, etc., to design, implement and evaluate programs related to
entrepreneurial training, small business/agribusiness development, local/food marketing,
neighborhood development and other community development related activities. The CED
Educator reports to the Program Leader, CED, to establish program goals.
