An Environmental Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department Customer Care. This position is with the Grease Abatement Team in the Pretreatment section. This position would be responsible for conducting inspections and collecting wastewater samples of Food Service Establishments. Additionally, this position assists with Sanitary Sewer Overflow investigations and Plan Review tasks for new commercial builds and managing the Food Service Establishment accounts.
The Environmental Specialist job responsibilities include:
- Conducts inspections of Food Service Establishments
- Collects wastewater samples
- Assists with plan review tasks
- Assists with wastewater investigations
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with major course work in biology, chemistry, environmental science
- Valid Driver's License
- Must be able to pass a Physical and Drug Screen
Preferred Qualifications:
- Field Experience
- Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment and collection / distribution systems
- Ability to prepare clear and concise documentation
Working Conditions:
Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, unsanitary conditions, workspace restrictions, and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor even when dealing with upset customers/citizens.
Physical Demands:
Medium work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
Conditions of Employment
Candidates who do not meet the Education requirement, may be considered if they have more relevant work experience than the position requires. Those selected for employment will be required to pass Pre-Employment checks depending on the position requirements.
