Job description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Cleans assigned public areas, patient rooms, ancillary rooms, operating and exam rooms, office areas, and other areas according to established departmental policies and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Director Environmental Services and within established Catholic Medical Center and departmental policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following essential functions:
Operating Room Cleaning:
- Performs daily terminal cleaning of Operating / C-section rooms after each use meeting all AORN Standards.
- Daily cleans all OR prep and scrub areas.
Daily Standard Cleaning:
1. Completes the seven steps of cleaning procedure for assigned areas including: trash removal, high dusting, damp disinfecting, dry mopping, bathroom cleaning, wet mopping and inspection.
2. Strips, washes, and makes bed after a patient is discharged.
- Disinfects wheelchairs, stretchers and other equipment.
- Moves furniture to clean and replaces in proper location.
- Completes window, wall and blind cleaning.
- Stocks cart and supplies for work areas.
- Maintains equipment in clean, safe, and orderly condition.
- Refills and replenishes soap, toilet paper, paper towel and paper cup dispensers.
- Completes daily Environmental control checklist of areas assigned with discharge list.
- Reports any broken, missing and/or faulty equipment or materials to Director.
- Maintains the accuracy of the Bed Status Maintenance screen.
- Cleans hazardous spills that may occur throughout the facility.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned or requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices to safely perform the essential functions of the job:
- Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to all infection control/ universal precaution policies, safety policies, and safety policies for department chemicals as directed in the procedure manual.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Emergency Preparedness policies as directed in the Environment of Care Manual.
- Ability to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- The worker is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
- Ability to wear protective clothing such as gowns, masks, rubber gloves, shoe covers, safety goggles, respirators, etc.
- Requires the ability to understand and follow simple instructions and to use simple equipment involving few decisions.
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Generally Monday through Friday and every other weekend.
- Days 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; Evenings 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm; Nights 10:30 pm - 7:00 am.
