Contributes to the agency’s mission by supporting the organizational objective to facilitate the environmental remediation program for the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) by providing remedial assistance, training, leadership, and accountability..

Serves as the lead of the Environmental Remediation Program for the Department by providing remedial assistance, training, leadership and accountability. Provides planning, organization, coordination, and execution for the remediation and/or environmental compliance at all DOC facilities. Provides analysis to ensure that liabilities potentially incurred by the Department are minimized through appropriate assessment, cost-benefit, training, and/or risk management analysis and decision-making. Provides guidance, direction, training and assistance with the implementation of corrective actions, design recommendations and/or preventative measures to address deficiencies noted during assessments.

The selected candidate must successfully complete 40-hours of OSHA HAZWOPER Training within 12 months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license. Experience operating construction equipment (backhoe, track hoe, grader, loader, etc.). Knowledge of federal and state solid and hazardous substance/materials/waste laws and petroleum storage tank laws. Technical knowledge of Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering. Technical knowledge of the principles & practices related to Geology and Chemistry. Demonstrated ability to interpret facility assessment reports and develop reasonable and effective solutions. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical projects and programs. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, a related discipline preferred or combination of applicable training and experience. Prefer valid Commercial Driver’s License with Class “A” endorsement. Completion of or the ability to successfully complete 40-hours of OSHA HAZWOPER Training within 12 months of employment. Prefer demonstrated skill in the use of computers and related software to include Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Special Requirements
