JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Review reports of testing and auditing
  • Lead all necessary permitting, i.e. NPDES
  • Understand Cluster Rules and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of primary and secondary waste water treatment systems.
  • Analyze data for continued compliance of waste water systems to include current operating conditions and recognize opportunities for improvements.
  • Manage a technical support lab of 4 technicians to ensure data are collected and prepared according to accepted QAQC practices and representative of actual operating conditions
  • Provide environmental expertise and leadership to plant staff, operations, maintenance, engineering, and laboratory.
  • Perform periodic environmental audits, develop recommendations for environmental program and performance improvement.
  • Develop, track, analyze and communicate plant environmental reporting and statistics.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and outside consultants on issues.
  • Drives continuous improvement opportunities including system development
  • Promotes employee engagement to achieve desired results
  • SCHEDULE DEMANDS:
  • General schedule is an 8 /-hours M-F assignment and rotating weekend duty coverage; employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent, bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time up to 8 /-hour
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment
  • Employee is required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protecting when in the manufacturing area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity.
  • The noise level in the immediate work environment is normally quiet, however requires exposure to a noisy manufacturing environment.

Required Skills
SKILLS:

  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office and database programs.
  • Proficient in mill information programs PI, Proficy and SAP
  • Self-starter, good people skills, strong personal leadership, organizational skills, oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.

PERFERRED

  • State Wastewater Operator License
  • State Certified Landfill Operator
  • State Certified Lab Analyst for Wastewater

Required Experience
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous on-site working experience, in an integrated Pulp and Paper mill with experience in the Kraft liquor cycle
  • 2 - 5 years or more post college experience in manufacturing environment (pulp and paper industry experience preferred). Must have experience related to environmental permitting, testing and compliance. Knowledge and experience with practical application of environmental regulations required. Must be experienced using a computer and skilled in word processing, spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Excel), SAP business systems, and other databases. Plant Applications and PI ProcessBook experience preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • BS Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Environmental Science
  • 2-5 years’ experience in environmental or process engineering
  • 2-5 years’ experience in manufacturing preferably pulp and paper
  • Supervisory experience managing lab personnel
