Performs a variety of moderately difficult subprofessional, technical functions in general support of professional engineering activities; and performs other related duties as required.

Engineering Support Technician (EST) I may progress up the career ladder to an EST II (SR-17). However, the Engineering Support Technician I DOES NOT PROGRESS TO THE PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER SERIES, such as Civil Engineer I-V, Electrical Engineer I-V, or Mechanical Engineer I-V.

Current Vacancy:
There are five (5) vacancies with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply. The position provides variety of support to the engineers of the Water Conservation Branch to manage the Water Conservation Program, Recycled Water Program and Energy Conservation Program. Assists in field inspections, data and information collection, developing reports and graphs, and provides various administrative support for the operation of the branch. Operates motor vehicles to move between Kapolei Hale and Beretania offices, and to visit other sites to perform field data collections, water/energy audits, and recycled water (RW) meter related tasks, etc.

Special Working Conditions: Work may be performed outdoors in inclement weather. May be required to work evenings and weekends. Some work is performed in confined areas, on rough, uneven terrain, and on slick and wet surfaces. Some work involves exposure to noise, offensive smells, dust, dirt and water.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Equivalent to graduation from high school with courses in mathematics. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Two years of technical experience in engineering oriented support functions such as in research, data collection and analysis, inspection, testing, designing, surveying and/or drafting activities.

Substitution: An associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering Technology or Natural Sciences and/or a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or in a Biological or Physical Science will substitute for all of the required experience.


Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your education in order to be given credit for the substitution. Please attach an electronic copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal to your application.
