Overview:
Quonset Point (QP) Quality Engineering is a seeking motivated candidate for essential engineering supervisor position to take on the challenging assignment of supporting module and ship certifications, preparing for NAVSEA 08 and functional audits, and engaging in cross-functional quality issues affecting QP to drive items to completion and ensure sustainability of corrective actions.

Quality Assurance (QA) Engineering is engaged in all aspects of problem resolution for Quality concerns that arise at the Quonset Point Facility. As Electric Boat continues to expand to support execution of new programs (Columbia and VPM), members of this team will be key contributors to ensure the success of these programs. QA Engineers routinely work cross functionally with internal and external customers to ensure a quality product.

Responsibilities of the QA Engineer Team include leading investigations of quality deficiencies at Quonset and to assist in issues that affect Quonset that occur in Groton, NNS, or with vendors. Efforts will include development of recovery plans, coordinating the status and efforts of multiple departments, assuring adequate corrective action is taken, and communicating status with the internal and external customers (e.g. SSGR, NAVSEA, EB Senior Management, etc.) through final resolution. Emergent issues may originate from any discipline, trade or supplier and will require the candidate to become familiar with new subjects and topics in an expedited manner. In this role, the ideal candidate will effectively communicate across programs and between organizations when needed to ensure successful completion of assigned tasks.

Additional responsibilities of the QAE Supervisor will include oversight of the following:

  • Pressure Hull Frame Dimension and Hull Fairness Measurement Evaluations
  • Facilitate and document QP Corrective Action Board Meetings
  • QP QAE Teams participation on significant issue problem resolution teams including causal analysis and implementation of preventive actions
  • Monitor, assign, status, and provide resolution support for all QP Corrective Action Requests
  • QIM (Quality Item Matrix) administration and act as a liaison to teaming partner NNS for resolution of construction issues between shipyards, including causal analysis and preventive actions where required
  • Develop and issue biweekly all-hands Quality briefings on various quality topics or current issues
  • Develop and monitor quality metrics to improve 1st time quality at the Quonset Point Facility
  • Work closely with Audit and Assessment to bound quality issues in support of the DSL/TLS and Critiques as requested
  • Quality commitment administration – load and manage commitments as required to support resolution of quality issues
  • Participate in Special Emphasis Program (SUBSAFE/DSS-SOC/FBW SCS) working groups within EB and jointly with NNS
  • Participate in the Weekly Global Issues Call with other Quality Organizations
  • Serve as the QP lead in preparing our facility for quality audits at Quonset Point (e.g., certification audits, NDT audits, NAVSEA 08 audits, etc.) by ensuring the QP Team is adequately prepared
  • Directly supporting ship certification & QP module shipouts
  • Leading improvement initiatives

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI location.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering
  • 3+ years of Engineering experience
  • Must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in MS Office Suite and Engineering Related Software
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering
  • 4+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Systems Engineering, and/or Waterfront Engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor new employees, especially in policies and procedures, technical writing and problem resolution
  • Demonstrated experience in formal correspondence with our External Customers
  • Previous supervisory or demonstrated leadership experience is highly desired
  • Experience in Waterfront or Design Engineering
  • Detailed knowledge of SUBSAFE, SDD-SOC and FBW SCS technical requirements
  • Experience on cross-functional teams, especially those focused on significant problem resolution
  • Project Management or “Systems” Engineering experience
