Description:The Engineering Manager will direct, communicate, coordinate, and support production to meet all corporate goals and objectives, as well as, activities involved in the planning, testing and implementation of new and current product and production projects for the firearms facilities in Ilion, NY and LaGrange, GA. They are responsible for the overall effectiveness of employees in the above functional groups.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (*Essential Functions)*

  • Responsible for the actions and development for all employees in site engineering.
  • Manage and ensure engineering support to manufacturing operations where needed.
  • Manage engineers at multiple sites.
  • Travel will be required between multiple sites up to 40%.
  • Formulate and be responsible for the departmental budget, aligned with VP Engineering goals.
  • Develop organization with Lean Principles and be an agent for change.
  • Train and assign engineering personnel to maximize support to production while developing the technical skills of the group.
  • Manage all new and current product and production projects to coincide with the scheduled dates of project implementation.
  • Manage analysis of products, equipment specifications, and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing processes.
  • Review feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering cost, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Assess manufacturability of component designs.
  • Ensure the maintenance and continual improvement of technical information (i.e. process records, model drawings, SOP’s, tool and fixture drawings) as needed to support manufacturing operations.
  • Support work to develop process improvements and enhancements to maximize production and quality.
  • Provide technical assistance to component and tooling suppliers.
  • Ability to jump in and be hands-on support and provide line coverage when needed.
  • Follows all plant safety rules and regulations and aligns with OSHA requirements.

Project Leadership:*

  • Interact with corporate personnel to achieve project goals.
  • Compile complete engineering estimates to substantiate expenditures and manpower.
  • Write “CAPITAL APPROPRIATION REQUEST” for project proposals.
  • Manage project accounting.
  • Maintain Microsoft Projects database to follow progress of new and current product projects.
  • Work with all levels of plant support systems to achieve predetermined project goals.
  • Conduct regular meetings.
  • Provide reports on project progress.

Qualifications, Educational Skills and Experience*
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required An in-depth interview and demonstration of skills will be required for any person applying for this position.

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent, and a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of machining and metalworking principles. Must have in-depth understanding of advanced metrology and GD&T.
  • Experience in technical management, and proven performance in process and project assignments.
  • Ability to organize and lead complex projects. Must possess a strong knowledge of machining, metalworking principles, and project management.
  • Ability to write reports and procedures and effectively present information to top management.
  • Must be able to travel and attend off-plant training.
  • Lean manufacturing experience is beneficial.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Products (Excel, Word, Access) and ERP system such as S4 / HANA SAP.

Pay: $79,075.92 - $122,000.00 per year
