Overview of Position:

As a Engineering Manager at MMS, you’ll provide leadership to an engineering team that takes on a diverse range of projects, from machine design & build, to repair, rebuild, and retrofits of existing production assets. MMS' engineers must be able to rapidly acquire expertise in a wide variety of processes and applications and produce creative solutions to challenging problems. This role may be required to travel for projects. This is a non-supervisory role.

Travel:

When traveling for this role you will be eligible for the following:

  • Extended Travel Bonus
  • Per Diem
  • Mileage

Location / Hours / Compensation: Pekin, Illinois, Full-Time, Monday - Friday

40+ hours/week. Long hours, off-shift, and weekend work is always a possibility as projects dictate. Starting wage offer will be based on candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Compensation up to $150,000+ per year.

Desired Qualifications:

To be seriously considered for this role, the successful candidate should have the following regarding:

  • Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in Controls Engineering or related field. Industrial maintenance / manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Education: A four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or a two-year degree with extensive experience in Control Systems is a plus
  • Skills: Must have a strong mechanical aptitude and be comfortable using hand tools. The successful candidate will have advanced level analysis and troubleshooting skills. They should also be familiar with the following: PLC Programming (ladder logic, structure text, function block, etc.); Visual Display Layout; Drawing in a 2D CAD environment; Ethernet networks; Industrial Communication Protocols; and Motion Controls. Should also be familiar with NFPA 70; NFPA 70E; NFPA 79; ANSI/RIA R15.06.; Comfortable working with Office 365 tools.
  • Characteristics: Must have excellent communication skills and be customer focused. Must be able to prove leadership, mentorship and meet all deadlines.
  • Other requirements: Must have a valid state driver’s license, vehicle insurance and dependable vehicle. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of U.S.

Responsibilities:

In this role you will execute projects through their entire life cycle including but not limited to:

Project Procurement Skills

  • Look for possible sales opportunities.
  • Meet and discuss project requirements with customer
  • Present creative, cost effective, designs to the customer.
  • Quote all costs of the proposed project (labor & material).

Electrical Controls Design

  • Design complete industrial electrical automation control systems. Including: Electrical schematics, panel layouts, conduit layouts, BOMs, network diagrams, etc.
  • Preferred design environment is AutoCAD.
  • Specify and purchase the necessary material for a project.
  • Design coordination with other internal departments (mechanical engineers, millwrights, welders, etc.)
  • Calculate panel ratings (SCCR, arc flash level, FLA, etc.)
  • Familiarization with safety standards and risk assessment procedures is a plus.

Project Management & Execution

  • Track project costs (material and labor) and timelines while a project is being executed.
  • Communicate with the customer during project life cycle to coordinate project schedules and status.
  • Works with internal managers to handle project labor needs.
  • On-site at customer location for project installation.
  • Instruct onsite labor to complete hands-on tasks.
  • Coordinate & manage sub-contractors as needed.
  • Use hand tools to assist with installation as necessary.
  • Project start-up: power-up, commissioning, system testing & troubleshooting.

Continual Education

  • All engineer employees are encouraged to attend tradeshows, in-house training, vendor or OEM training, webinars, etc.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands/fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, ascend/descend or balance to heights that may require a ladder or lift; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to use close vision and color vision. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. Work is typically performed in a factory environment and is usually very loud. In the factory environment, the employee may be exposed to hazardous materials and/or greasy or slippery factory floors.
