We are seeking an experienced Tooling Engineer to join our Tool Engineering group in Redmond, WA.

You will have a chance to use your creativity to design tools (through functional prototyping) that will make the manufacturing, assembly and testing of our rocket thrusters even more efficient. You will work closely with other manufacturing engineers, machinists, assembly technicians and test engineers. May also provide input or advice to rocket design engineers in regards to tooling aspects. Emphasis is placed on designing tools that are safe for both personnel and hardware, but also utilize concepts such as Design for Manufacturability (DFMA) and mistake proofing.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
Working under general supervision:

50% - Design quality tools using parametric solid modeling software. Models must be thorough and complete to verify usability and interferences prior to fabrication. Completed drawings will be produced using ANSI Y14.5M-1982 standards and GD&T callouts.

10% - Rework existing tools to improve functionality, safety, or usability. Includes documenting changes in either electronic or hand drawing formats and working with manufacturing engineers to ensure proper implementation.

10% - Work with engineering staff to determine cost estimates for new tooling.

10% - Procure materials and hardware necessary to fabricate tooling. Can include everything from simple fasteners to exotic materials.

10% - Perform design reviews and tool proofs to verify proper form, fit, and function.

10% - Special improvement projects focused on particular aspects of manufacturing, assembly or testing.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: -Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) and 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have strong parametric solid modeling and drafting background (Unigraphics NX preferred).

Also requires a background with common manufacturing processes including milling, turning, and welding, as well as familiarity with ANSI drafting and GD&T standards. Familiarity with DFMA, mistake proofing, six sigma and lean manufacturing preferred.

Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
