Assistant Director, Donor Recognition and Engagement

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Stewardship, the Assistant Director of Donor Recognition and Engagement (ADRE) will advance the institution's fundraising growth efforts through the successful developing and implementation of purposeful campaigns, projects, events, programs, creative work and messaging to showcase the university's brand and strategic initiatives. As a member of the University Advancement Development team, this collaborative position interfaces with college and unit development teams, central annual giving, and central advancement communications. The ADRE will drive, develop, and implement recognition programs that honor and celebrate donors at key lifetime giving milestones, promoting additional (and increased) giving, and deepening each donor's personal commitment to U of I through personalized and meaningful engagement.

Duties may include:
  • Developing and executing marketing, engagement and stewardship plans targeting various donor audiences.
  • Leading the strategic development and evaluation of centralized giving societies.
  • Act as liaison to the University events team and development units regarding donor recognition and engagement.
  • Identifying problems, defining alternatives, and developing recommendations for management/administrators.



Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree OR four additional (six total) years of full-time professional experience in the areas related to client relations, event management, development, sales, marketing, business administration, higher education, or project management.
  • Two years experience providing program and/or event support in the areas of client relations, event management, development, outside sales, marketing, business administration, higher education, or project management.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience executing marketing or engagement initiatives across multiple channels, including digital and print, to archive unit goals.
  • Experience supporting high-profile events in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven project management experience along with demonstrated analytical, strategic-thinking, adaptability, communication and relationship-building skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of development or fundraising activities, particularly donor relations, stewardship, and annual giving.

Work Experience that demonstrates the following:
  • Ability to interpret and utilize data to drive decision and strategy.
  • Professional writing, editing, analytical and research skills; strong prior experience composing correspondence and/or copy is preferred.
  • Project management skills and proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines independently.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to interface professionally with administration, faculty, staff, students, and donors.
