Job Summary: The function of the position is to manage all the aspects of the organization as described in this document and as supervised by the Superintendent. Responsible for the overall operation of the elementary school, including the supervision and formal evaluation of all building employees, scheduling students and staff, curriculum, building budget, and the physical plant. Work environment is challenging and requires quick and accurate decisions. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Able to make judgments and work under high level of stress.


Qualifications:
Pennsylvania Department of Education certification as elementary principal.

Master’s Degree (plus fifteen hours beyond)

At least five (5) years of successful teaching with three (3) years administrative or equivalent

experience preferred.


Administrative

  • Provide leadership for continuous total educational program improvement.
  • Perform building administrative responsibilities within procedures established by Board policy and Administrative Guidelines.
  • Inform and make recommendations to improvements concerning the school’s educational status, problems, issues, directions, and plans.
  • Assist in the selection of professional personnel and submit recommendations to the Superintendent.
  • Evaluate professional personnel and support staff and submit evaluations to the Superintendent.
  • Recommend necessary staff additions or reductions.
  • Coordinate pupil and special service programs in the building.
  • Serve as Chairperson for MDE, IEP, and MTSS processes.
  • Counsel parents regarding educational concerns.
  • Resolve transportation and cafeteria issues as they apply to the student.
  • Actively communicate the school’s programs and student achievements to parents, taxpayers, and the public.
  • Respond to community concerns and requests. Communicate significant issues to the immediate supervisor.
  • Attend school or evening meetings, such as PTO, and School Board meetings.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required by the Superintendent.

Budget and Finance

  • Recognize building maintenance concerns and recommend corrective measures to the Superintendent and/or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Monitor and correct any safety and health hazards to pupils, staff, or public by notifying the Superintendent and/or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Prepare and manage the building budget, and serve as custodian of activity accounts.
  • Supervise the maintenance of all required building records and reports.

Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development

  • Evaluate educational programs and recommend modifications.
  • Analyze test data, interpret results for staff, parents, and community, and make suggestions for appropriate adjustments to instructional practices if necessary.
  • Develop schedules for all teachers and students.
  • Direct the placement of students into the instructional program that best meets the needs of the students.
  • Participate in professional improvement activities and District professional development to make the elementary principal more effective as an educational leader.
  • Supervise substitute teachers to ensure the instructional program is maintained.
  • Extend professional role into community – recruitment of teachers, interviewing college students, etc.

During a typical work day:

Must be able to stand 3 total hours.

Must be able to walk 4 total hours.

Must be able to bend/stoop, squat, and reach above

shoulder occasionally.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds

frequently.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

occasionally.

Must be able to do repetitive actions including grasping,

pushing/pulling,

fine-motor manipulation, writing or printing and

twisting/turning frequently.

Must be able to adhere to daily time schedule.

Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum).

Must be able to communicate verbally.

Must have vision requirements of near acuity of 20

inches or fewer and far acuity of 20 feet or more with

depth perception, accommodation, and field of vision.


PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT Encompasses entire building and grounds. Center of operation is the building office which is well-ventilated and well-lighted.
