Electrical Controls Technician

The primary result expected from the Electrical Controls Technician will be to operate and maintain electrical and electronic components associated with Silva manufacturing processes and control system equipment efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities:

· Partner with engineering staff on larger capital projects for new equipment and facility expansion

· Develop complex safety circuits for new equipment as well as upgrading existing equipment

· Develop schematics and line drawings for existing and future automation projects using CAD software

· Be part of continuous improvement teams that implement ideas to improve the uptime of plant equipment through equipment modifications, layout adjustments, and general machine maintenance

· Assist with new equipment installation and/or equipment relocation and modification

· Lead controls and automation planning for facility

· Develop and maintain electrical control systems, robotics, and communication networks for machines and manufacturing processes

· Create and implement technical competencies surrounding programming and controls systems

· Write, edit, and enhance PLC programs for new and existing equipment

· Provide high level troubleshooting for all controls and electrical systems

· Mentor other maintenance members

· Complete controls and electrical projects to update and upgrade existing systems

· Update schematics to reflect changes in the electrical distribution and control systems

· Support the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program with a goal of continually reducing unscheduled downtime.

· Perform Preventive Maintenance and repair of all production and building equipment

· Provide necessary updates to involved team members and increase project awareness

· Driving continuous improvement activities to minimize maintenance downtime and improve safety

· Ensure safety by following all company policies including safety rules, procedures and Lock-out / Tag-out procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), FDA Standards, personal safety standards, food safety standards as well as OSHA standards.

· Work cooperatively with production staff to accomplish tasks and achieve departmental goals.

· Perform other tasks as assigned.

SKILLS:

· Able to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, procedure manuals and instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

· Able to work from drawings, schematics, sketches and through verbal communication.

· Able to work independently as well as in a team environment on assigned projects/ tasks and report to supervision the status of each as needed.

· Able to demonstrate practical problem-solving skills.

· Experience in troubleshooting electrical systems

· Ability to work with team members of all levels

· Rapid troubleshooting skills for a variety of electrical systems

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related from an accredited university preferred

· 2 or more years of industrial electrical and/or process control experience is preferred.

· Experience in a Manufacturing environment a plus.

· Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC)

· Experience with PLC and HMI including Allen Bradley, Siemens, and other processors preferred

· Experience with electrical distribution and control systems

Physical Requirements:

· Lifting up to 50 lbs. with single person lift

· Climbing (ladders, stairs, etc.)

· Operating production and support equipment (production lines, forklifts, scissor lift, power tools)

· Bending and stooping

· Extended periods of being on your feet.
