Sequatchie Valley Head Start is a premier early childhood program serving low-income and at-risk children (birth to age 5) and their families by providing comprehensive services to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs.

We are seeking Early Head Start Teachers for our Tracy City and Altamont locations. The Early Head Start teacher is generally an 11-month position, scheduled to work 8 hours per day Monday through Friday with a family-friendly schedule and excellent fringe benefits to include state retirement for the candidate who wants to help at-risk children succeed.

Examples of specific duties for an Early Head Start Teacher include:

• Delivering a well-planned, developmentally appropriate curriculum
• Ensuring compliance with all child care licensing and Head Start regulations
• Assessing children’s developmental level and planning a program to meet their individual needs
• Organizing the classroom to provide the best environment for the curriculum
• Involving parents in the education of their child and encouraging them to become involved in all aspects of the program.

Education Requirements:

The Early Head Start Teacher must have a minimum:

• An Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or another comparable credential; and
• Been trained or have equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development.

Preferred education and experience:

• An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in child development or early childhood education; and
• Extensive experience working with young children

The teacher should be knowledgeable about child growth and development and the needs of children and must possess the ability to communicate with children and adults.
