Job Description

Shift: Tour 2: 8 A.M - 4 P.M

Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the Cardiology Director, the incumbent will perform technical duties within non-invasive Cardiology. The incumbent is directly involved with various imaging procedures using Ultrasound, and incumbents may perform additional assignments as required per department.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The Echo Technician is charged with and responsible for the following:

Experience performing echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms

Perform echocardiography procedures to include M-mode/2D imaging, color Doppler, cardiac Doppler

Assist the Cardiologist in performing Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) procedures

Report to the appropriate medical staff any abnormalities that require immediate attention

Reviews the Control Sheet for pertinent clinical data.

Ensures proper supplies and equipment operation

Demonstrates knowledge of the Privacy and Security rules outlined in the HIPAA guidelines.

Adheres to all hospital and departmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Adheres to the departmental attendance policy.

According to team leader requirements, maintain room inventory and equipment checklist at the beginning of the shift before patients enter the room.

Review Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and/or other documentation to confirm the following:
The correct patient is present for a given examination
To confirm that physicians’ orders are accurate and appropriate. If conflicts occur regarding the patient’s history/symptoms, the technologist should seek advice from the ordering physician or a cardiologist.

Demonstrates knowledge of proper patient positioning, imaging technique, and equipment setting, producing high-quality images.

Excellent knowledge of imaging protocol is necessary to accommodate any variations due to patient conditions.

Seeking advice from a cardiologist as needed.

Demonstrates a clear understanding of aseptic and sterile techniques.

Evaluates exam for technical accuracy and confirms that completed examinations are delivered to the Archiving and Communications Systems

Documents for the completion of each examination as required by departmental protocol to ensure that all reports created by the Cardiologist can be seen globally throughout the organization.

All other duties as assigned by the department.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Completion of a Sonography or Ultrasound training program from an accredited school.
