Thousands of kids need extra help building a strong foundation in early literacy and numeracy skills before Kindergarten. Take action as an Early Learning Tutor and help kids emerge stronger and ready for school.

As an Early Learning Tutor, you’ll spend your days helping kids ages 3-5 to talk, read, write, sing, and play in order to develop early literacy and math skills. Working closely with a teacher in a classroom, you’ll enhance daily activities and help our youngest learners build both skills and confidence.

With great training and on-site coaching, we’ll prepare you to help kids succeed. Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the entire school year. We are currently recruiting tutors for the 2022-23 school year, with the option of beginning in August, October or January.

This is an AmeriCorps member position with Early Learning Corps and you’ll be joining a team of 400 tutors nationwide. Together, we’re on a mission to help our youngest learners get ready for school!

• Use proven strategies to help students build their skills and confidence.
• Spend your days helping children play rhyming games, write their names, learn letter sounds, and develop counting skills.
• Collaborate with coaches to monitor student progress and see what’s working.
• Conduct skill assessments and enter student scores into data management software.
• Commit to continuous improvement through coaching, training and professional development.
• Represent Early Learning Corps at school-sponsored activities and share your experience with the wider community to help build awareness.

Give your time as a tutor and receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 35, 25, or 18 hours per week.

35 hours/week perks:

• A stipend of $900 paid every 2 weeks
  • $18,900 total for 1200 hours of service starting in August 2022
  • $15,300 total for 900 hours of service starting in October 2022
  • $9,900 total for 675 hours of service starting in January 2023
• Up to $4,546 for tuition or student loans*
• Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment
• Individual health insurance — Monthly premium 100% covered
• Child care assistance — Based on family size and income

25 hours/week perks:

• A stipend of $650 paid every 2 weeks
  • $13,650 total for 900 hours of service starting in August 2022
  • $11,050 total for 675 hours of service starting in October 2022
  • $7,150 total for 450 hours of service starting in January 2023
• Up to $3,247 for tuition or student loans*
• Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment

18 hours/week perks:

• A stipend of $450 paid every 2 weeks
  • $9,450 total for 675 hours of service starting in August 2022
  • $7,650 total for 450 hours of service starting in October 2022
  • $4,950 total for 300 hours of service starting in January 2023
• Up to $2,474 for tuition or student loans*
• Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment

• The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child or stepchild.

Early Learning Corps takes ordinary people and trains them to be great tutors. Anyone can become a tutor as long as they have a passion to take action for kids – and meet the following minimum qualifications. By the time they begin their service, our tutors are:

• Dependable and have a history of good attendance
• Able to understand and follow instructions
• Are energized by young learners and want to help them discover new things.
• Eager to work collaboratively with the classroom teaching team.
• Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
• Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing
• 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
• A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
• Able to successfully complete a background check

Early Learning Corps is powered by AmeriCorps members who serve as tutors. Started in 2003, Early Learning Corps has helped more than 100,000 children build early literacy and numeracy skills and get ready for Kindergarten. Rigorous third-party evaluation has shown Early Learning Corps students consistently outperform their peers on key emergent literacy outcomes.
