About the Position


CABVI (Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired) is currently seeking an experienced, capable, and highly motivated Youth Services Vision Specialist to join our team! This is a full-time position reporting to the Early Childhood & Youth Services (EC&YS) Manager. This position will provide individualized and support services for children with visual impairments and their families. Service areas include those identified in the Expanded Core Curriculum for Students with Vision Impairments, Pre-Employment and Transition Services through Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) and Early Intervention services. Specific areas of service will depend on the experience and credentials of the employee. This position will also aid in implementing group and summer programming for students and their families. The principal responsibilities for this position include:


  • Provide individual and group assessment and instruction in skill areas included in the Expanded Core Curriculum in the school, community and agency setting.
  • Provide individual and group Pre-Employment Transition Services (OOD program).


  • Collaborate with area Teachers of the Visually Impaired, COMS and other professionals providing services to students with visual impairments


  • Provide support and advocacy to families of students with visual impairments; attend IEP and school team meetings as appropriate.


  • Provide group trainings and gatherings for parents and community service providers regarding functional vision and blindness issues.


  • Assist in planning and implementation of peer opportunities for children and families


  • Maintains accurate and timely records for client services and completes administrative needs of CABVI within required timelines.


  • Initiates and actively participates in professional activities to meet program and agency needs.


  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Applicant Requirements


  • BS or BA in special education, human services or similar field required. Masters degree preferred; Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), or related field preferred.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in a direct client service role in a Human Services field.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, specifically with visually impaired students strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work and interact with a diverse population.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members.
  • Flexibility in working with families and meeting their scheduling needs.
  • Ability to travel throughout the service area in Ohio, Northern KY, and Indiana (11 counties).
