DSHS ESA WorkFirst Program Specialist

The Economic Services Administration, Community Services Division (CSD) is looking for an approachable and mindful individual for the role of WorkFirst Program Specialist located at the Sky Valley Community Services Office located in Monroe, WA. This role is in an office setting, you will experience the rewarding feeling of being alongside a dedicated team that shares your commitment to success.

This job provides professional services to individuals and families who have barriers to employment. You will interact respectfully with clients and coworkers in a work/home environment. Snohomish County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Some of what you will do:
  • Provide professional case management and evaluates services for a broad range of individuals seeking WorkFirst assistance through the local community services office
  • Conduct orientation for new and returning WorkFirst clients
  • Determine each client’s eligibility and appropriateness for public assistance programs
  • Screen clients for possible barriers such as domestic violence, substance abuse, special assistance, needs for family planning, etc.
  • Develop, revise, monitor, and update client Individual Responsibility Plans
  • Provide case management to TANF clients
  • Identifies, analyzes, and discusses client’s circumstances and refers to community resources and WorkFirst contractors to remove barriers to employability
  • Assess the need, authorize, and facilitate appropriate support services
  • Conduct interviews both in the office and by phone to determine eligibility for financial, medical, and Basic Food programs; determines accurate benefit amounts by calculating income and resources
  • Provide benefits following the guidelines of federal and state funding sources and federal immigration law
  • Assess the effect of reported changes on continuing eligibility and process client change of circumstances
  • Input and receive data on multiple automated systems

Who should apply?

Professionals with one year of experience as a Public Benefits Specialist experience or equivalent experience determining eligibility for social or financial service programs.
