Job description

The Drafter/CAD Technician is responsible for transforming GIS field data to high quality CAD drawings. Applicant shall possess good communications skills, flexibility, problem-solving skills and basic knowledge of telecom engineering and Utility construction. Must be proficient in AutoCAD to complete technical telecommunication design packages that will be used for project permitting and construction.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed minimum specification to MWFN Construction Policy, FCC Technical Standards, NEC, OSHA, State, County and/or City, and all other applicable agencies
  • Independently read field notes and translate the information to AutoCAD
  • Create construction drawing packages that will be used for permitting and construction per MWFN specs
  • Modify communication drawings based on field GIS, markedā€up copies, and/or verbal instructions
  • Interpret engineering designs and incorporate into drawing packages.
  • Provide support to design engineers, project managers and other technicians
  • Maintain project drawing files, drawing library, and associated records and in an orderly condition
  • Draft aerial, underground, and inside plant facilities
  • Consult with senior engineers regarding design and drafting standards
  • Use computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and other software to complete final working drawings

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma
  • 2-years of experience in drafting (Civil and/or GIS Drafting preferred)
  • 2-years of experience with interpreting utility, topographic, street or profile maps
  • Prior experience in the telecommunications industry is a plus
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (latest version preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience with GIS and ESRI software a plus
  • Associate Degree in Drafting/Computer-Aided Design is preferred

Work is performed in an office setting and remote client sites, and time is also spent engineering cable or fiber routes in the field in a variety of conditions.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
