Job description

First requirement is that you must be kind to dogs and their people. Other essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Discussing grooming requests with customers; Receiving and releasing dogs to and from owners
  • Bathing, trimming nails, cleaning ears, brushing, blow-drying, clipping, shaving, and expressing anal glands
  • Maintaining grooming records and establishing a relationship with customers
  • Keeping grooming facility exceptionally clean and orderly
  • Promoting grooming at Central Bark
  • Completing other duties as assigned

Minimum experience requirements - must be able to provide:

  • A resume with at least six years of grooming experience in a professional salon
  • Photos of work for a variety of dog breeds
  • References from previous supervisors

Additional requirements or preferences:

  • Must be able to groom and manage with kindness dogs who are young, wiggly, fearful, and/or uncooperative. We do not turn away dogs unless they are dangerous.
  • Must be reliable - once grooming appointments are scheduled they are difficult to reschedule except for extreme emergencies.
  • Certification preferred but not required.

At this time we have three days a week available with flexible scheduling. Grooming compensation is commission-based. Additional benefits available for groomers who are maintaining or seeking certification.

COVID-19 considerations:
Curbside drop-off and pick-up of dogs is available. Masks are required of all clients and employees. Employees must be vaccinated within three months of employment. Regular sanitation and disinfection of facility and equipment.

  • Applicants for this position must complete an unpaid working interview, during which they will bathe and give a haircut to one dog. Are you able and willing to complete the working interview?
  • Applicants for this position must provide a portfolio of work. Are you able to provide pictures of 10 or more dogs whom you have groomed (cut hair)?
  • We require previous experience cutting hair in a professional grooming salon, preferably other than Petco or Petsmart. Do you have this type of experience?
  • Rescheduling grooming appointments can be difficult, especially when an appointment is combined with a day care or boarding reservation. Therefore, reliability and dependability are especially important for us. Do you have any reason that you cannot commit to working your scheduled shifts?
  • We require COVID vaccination? Are you vaccinated or will you be vaccinated by the time you start work?
  • This position requires professional experience cutting/trimming hair. (We do not have anyone on staff to train you for this position.) Please describe your scissor and clipping skills.
