Job Summary

The Drexel University School of Public Health invites applications for a Project Manager for a newly funded position in the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health at the Center for Firefighter Injury Research & Safety Trends (FIRST). The position requires a detail-oriented, organized, and creative individual who will oversee and coordinate activities from the FEMA Assistance to Fire Grant and in partnership with the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association.

As a member of this interdisciplinary group, the position will be responsible for project management especially involving regular project communications, literature reviews, developing course content, managing datasets/data analysis using quantitative and qualitative software, engaging with stakeholders and fire & rescue service partners, and performing process/outcome evaluations.

We seek a person with demonstrated academic and community practice experience working with industry to accomplish diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. This may be evidenced through training fellowships or work experience. We encourage applications from those with experience with the fire service or similar first responder industries, and particularly those of identities and communities underrepresented in these industries such as women, BIPOC, and sexual and/or gender minorities. The ability to lead and respond to discussion related to DEI topics with respect and compassion is essential, and the ability to provide space for learning and growth of an evolving industry is critical. Previous management of people, teams, and external stakeholders is necessary to be successful in this role. This is an in-person position with significant travel and is not an entry-level position.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee effective communications with the project team, community members, funding agencies, and academic partners Essential Edit Remove
  • Plan and organize project team meetings, demonstrate experience in managing multiple projects with multiple team members
  • Conduct and prepare findings from academic and gray literatures for project reports and publications
  • Assist with the design, collection, management, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data

  • Document project activities for interim and final reports, assist with presentations, publications, technical reports, and policy briefs disseminating project research
  • Assist with grant budget oversight and reconciliation
  • Quickly gain familiarity and knowledge of issues related to the fire service
  • Demonstrate knowledge of public health research methods and remain current with established and emerging best practices related to DEI initiatives
  • Work with masters-level and doctoral-level students

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or Equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Public Health, related medical or research setting. Exceptions may be made for unpaid internships or community projects during a graduate program depending on the strength of the applicant’s references.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Previous experience with the fire service and in prevention research is highly desirable.
  • The DEI Project Manager will work on new initiatives as requested by Director, Dr. Taylor and Associate Director, Andrea Davis.

Preferred Qualifications

Exemplary project management and time management skills are expected. The Project Manager should have an advanced proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative public health research methods.

Supplemental Information:

This is a grant-funded position through August 2024. Continuation of the position is contingent upon availability of funds. The position exists within an office setting, which is located at Drexel University’s University City campus in Philadelphia and may involve additional travel within and outside the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Regular out-of-state travel is also expected to work with fire & rescue service organizations and attend conferences.
