Your contribution!

The Director – Transmission is responsible for managing all transmission and interconnection-related activities for Innergex’s portfolio of utility scale wind, solar and energy storage projects under development, construction and operation within North America. You would be supported by the Manager – Interconnection. Your technical experience and understanding of renewable energy projects, ability to negotiate and communicate, and your background working on collaborative teams will make you the ideal candidate.


Your day-to-day:

  • Formulate and lead transmission and interconnection strategies for new regions and the company’s existing project development pipeline;
  • Support the Development and M&A / Finance teams with transmission expertise on potential acquisition targets;
  • Collaborate with and support the Engineering, Construction, and Operations and Maintenance teams with transmission and interconnection related matters;;
  • Lead feasibility level, available transmission/injection capacity and other transmission system impact modeling and studies. Interface with, and manage transmission-related third-party engineers and other consultants as necessary;
  • Prepare project transmission-related fatal flaw analyses and evaluate opportunities for accessing new transmission systems. Identify competition in target areas and constraints;
  • Prepare and submit interconnection application and transmission service requests;
  • Research, study, track and verify progress of transmission service through OASIS and other utility services for Innergex projects, acquisition opportunities, and competing requests;
  • Represent company through attendance at RTO / ISO meetings, industry trade association sessions, and user group briefings. Remain current on state and federal regulatory matters;
  • Monitor relevant interconnection queues;
  • Follow and participate in regional and federal policy initiatives related to transmission grids and power markets, including industry and legislative planning;
  • Provide expertise on regional transmission development issues including planned system upgrades, interconnection queue reforms, transmission service study reforms, and market and tariff reforms.


Your skills, our requirements!

  • Bachelor of Science and / or Master’s Degree(s) in electrical engineering; a Business Minor or MBA would be an asset;
  • A minimum of 10 years of transmission planning with experience in the independent power industry (wind, solar, battery storage);
  • Experience working on transmission and interconnection activities throughout the U.S. (strong PJM, WECC, and ERCOT market knowledge, a plus);
  • Working knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements, and issues regarding transmission and interconnection;
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret regulatory documents, transmission studies, engineering reports and interconnection agreements;
  • Proficient with appropriate software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), PowerWorld or equivalent power flow software, and PROMOD;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and on a multitude of project teams;
  • Prior experience managing transmission and interconnection experts a plus.


Additional considerations:

  • The position is based at the San Diego (California) office but could be remote;
  • Availability to travel, approximately 25% of the time.
