We are seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead and develop enterprise-wide data capabilities pertaining to our customer’s Relationships (e.g., Parents, Children, Beneficiaries, etc.). The capture, curation and management of these Relationships is part of our larger Unified Customer Profile (UCP) platform. UCP is an enterprise-wide real-time customer 360 data platform.

In this role, you will lead and mentor other engineers as well as perform hands-on software development to build and modernize the API, and database layers of UCP. You will also apply a variety of cloud-native (AWS and Snowflake) technologies to develop innovative solutions to complex problems. This position is a critical element to delivering Fidelity’s promise of creating the best customer experiences in financial services.


The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a technology related field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, etc.) required.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with Object Oriented programming, software design and programming fundamentals
  • Proven track record as a Technical Lead, crafting new solutions and re-platforming legacy applications
  • Desire/ability to learn and implement new technologies
  • Keen ability to see complex challenges from multiple perspectives, and leaning in to solve independently or with others
  • Java application development experience using Spring framework or Dropwizard
  • Experience designing RESTful APIs
  • Good knowledge of standard methodologies in API design (e.g., microservices pattern)
  • Knowledge of API to database connection management using different database drivers - Relational Databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.) and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, Elastic search, Graph DB, etc.)
  • Understanding of SQL, Transact SQL, Stored Procedures, Indexes, and data service development
  • Experience with DevOps or CI/CD Pipelines using Maven, Jenkins, uDeploy, Stash, Ansible, etc.
  • Good understanding of automation (testing, continuous integration/deployment)
  • Experience or certification in Cloud-based (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) architectures
  • Hands-on knowledge of Messaging Technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, SNS, SQS)
  • Experience with Agile development methodology
  • Excellent communication skills, both through written and verbal channels
  • Excellent facilitation, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in global teams distributed across geographic locations
